Dragic can be bought out. Boucher helps the Kings with their playoff push and Bonga is a filler.
The Raptors obtain an expiring back up center, and they can take a one year chance on Bagley on their GLeague team. It helps prevent injury can't their core players with Thompson, Bagley, and Jones being able to be the rebounding, defensive bruiser they need. The Raptors should consider placing Achiuwa, Banton, and even Flynn to their Gleague affiate although they may lack the depth to do so.
81. What is the NBA Developmental League (NBA G-League)?The NBA Developmental League (also known as the NBA G-League, D-League or NBADL) is a separate league run in affiliation with the NBA. An NBA team may assign its players (who are on standard NBA contracts) to its affiliated NBA G-League team as follows:
Years of Exp......Assignment rule
0-2.................Can be assigned at any time
3+..................Can be assigned if the player and the union consent
If an active player on a standard NBA contract is assigned to the G-League, he is automatically placed on his NBA team's Inactive List. There is no minimum or maximum length of an NBA G-League assignment, and players have 48 hours to report to the NBA G-League team once they are assigned. Players continue to receive their NBA salary while assigned to the NBA G-League, but their performance in NBA G-League games does not count toward NBA incentives.
If a player on a standard NBA contract who is on a G-League assignment is suspended for less than 20 games, he loses 1/145 of his salary per game. If the suspension is for 20 or more games, he loses 1/110 of his salary per game. Players stay on the team's Two-Way list for their entire suspension.
Two-Way players and Two-Way contracts are covered in question number 82.
NBA G-League rosters are normally 10 players, but can expand to accommodate assigned NBA players and Two-Way players. In some cases where one team might be overstocked with assignees or players at a particular position, players might be reassigned to a different team. NBA teams do not control the playing time their assignees receive -- that is up to the G-League coaches.
So the story is that he refused to be subbed into a NBA game for Sacramento, yet you expect him to accept an assignment to the G-League by Toronto?
I have him refusing an assignment to the G-League.
It would be a risk the Raptors would have to take. The Raptors still obtain significant center depth with Jones and Thompson that makes the trade good for them. It protects Siakam, OG, and even Barnes from having to play the 5 even with potential protocol or injury.
I understand taking the risk from the Toronto POV since they are able to dump over $5.1 million in salary and aren't sending compensation to the Kings for eating the extra money.
