Jordan has actually been helping them defensively but terrible offensively.

I like the Mike Scott suggestion. I wonder if other buyout players may come along. I think Kevin Love would be a no-brainer if he negotiates a buyout.

Muscala is the vet face of OKC I don’t think he’s going to go for anything but an overpay.

Olynk out for another month or so with a knee sprain

I think we have enough injured guys rn

And I don't think Lakers are touching THT for a vet rn

They need him to become a real contributor for them b/c I don't think Olynk makes us a bonafide contender

Daniel Theis?

Sign Meyers Leonard?

Leonard makes a lot of sense for them, probably the best player available. There are of course obvious PR issues.

Yeah Leonard would fit great actually.. the PR issues seem to be resolving as he works hard to learn from his mistake appropriately.

Obviously not perfect but seems like he has been working on his image

People make mistakes, nobody is perfect and its not like he went on a shooting spree of random people

He is not a good defender though

I wonder if Hou would take 3 expirings and 1-2 2nds for Theis

Save money and get 1-2 2nds

Olynyk would be my first option. Theis would be my second.

I wonder why they didn't plan for the need to have enough spacing so that Westbrook would have room to drive to the basket.

The plan was to give AD at the 5 extended run but he has been shooting poorly from 3 himself and the defensive rebounding seems to suffer as well in those line ups.

Isn't Anthony Davis their stretch 5?

Frankly, if they acquire any second-rate stretch 5 like Mike Muscala or Dieng, the other teams will guard them with a forward and put their center on Davis (and likewise, Davis will probably have to guard the opposition's center). Basically, Davis would be the 5, like it or not.

With the Lakers limited assets, they need to invest in a 3 and D wing before adding a stretch 5. Remember, this team has been at their best for the past 2+ years with James at the 4 and Davis at the 5.

The best option the Lakers could potentially have available in a potential buyout situation is Kevin Love. Is Kevin Love an ideal fit at center, he is not, BUT, he can bruise with the big guys down low, allowing Davis to stay fresh, while Davis still provides rim protection. Offensively, he stretches the floor both as a shooter and passer while also being a great rebounder. As a 20 minute a night guy, he would be a great asset - a better version of what the Lakers had with Markieff Morris the past few years.

This would also give the Lakers a lot of flexibility roster wise to match offense/defense out of the center position.

DeMarcus Cousins and Luke Kornet are waiting by the phone.

Oh, KO for THT is a big fat yes.

Chris Boucher could probably be had if the Lakers attach a FRP or two with some expirings.

Just about all of the players expected to cover minutes at PF and Center are rather old in NBA years.

Melo is 37
LeBron is 36 and soon to be 37
Ariza is 36
Dwight is 35 and soon to be 36
DAJ is 33
Davis is younger at 28, but he can be fragile at times

I realize that being able to offer only the Veteran Minimum limits what is possible, but having at least one younger player with even a pinch of upside would/could have been a boost to the roster.

To your point, another bigger wing could be acceptable in lieu of a stretch 5.

Bazemore being unplayable, and Ariza and Lebron’s injuries means the Lakers have had to go big more than they’ve wanted with DJ and AD. The problem is when DJ plays he kills spacing.

Westbrook and AD’s FG% inside 5ft (AKA the best part of their games, which is finishing near the rim)

With DJ on
Westbrook 41.2%
AD 62.5%

With DJ off
Westbrook 59.6%
AD 72.1%

Unfortunately, for the Lakers, DJ is the lesser of two evils between he and Bazemore right now.

An expiring Boucher is not worth TWO 1sts....let alone probably even a 1st

Lakers could send a few expirings and 3-4 2nds if needed

That I would do

About 20 teams could top that.

Not sure if 20 teams want to pay Theis 9m a year for the next 2 seasons after this

That is a negative contract

You consider his value at expiring Crap players and late SRP?
