Houston - Dallas - Toronto

Inspired by chuck sending favors to Houston for theis:
Toronto trade: Dragic, 2023 2nd
Toronto receives: Burke (into lowry TPE), (moses) brown
Dallas trade: Powell, Burke, Brown
Dallas receives: Dragic, Theis (via TPE)
Houston trade: Theis
Houston receives: Powell, 2023 TOR 2nd
Why for Toronto: Get a large sized TPE and prospect out of Dragic at the cost of a second and bit of dead money on the books next year.
Why for Dallas: add some vets to help compete better now
Why for Houston: get a year off theis contract and a second to boot

Fine to me as a Mavs fan. Theis would contribute and moving off Burke and Moses isn't a big price to pay to me.

Like it for Toronto. I think they would also buy-out Burke this year because they could take the hit for his remaining salary after moving off Dragic

At first glance I thought Toronto was getting too good a deal, but having to take on Burke's money for next year softens that a bit.
I don't believe Houston is due a pick in a Powell/Theis swap, but its fine I guess.
For Dallas I'm not excited. It's a pretty clear value loss as they take on a lot of money for the other teams and burn the TPE and I think the on court gains are marginal. And mind you I'm more than willing to take a value loss that helps on court. Most of my Mavs OP's have been of that variety. Maybe Dragic has more left than last year showed?

The nice thing about this trade vs your other versions with hield etc is the money they take on is expiring. They have to use the TPE one way or another by end of this year anyways. This limits future risk. Having said that, Toronto can send out cash to dallas (or to houston and reroute 2nd to dallas) too to balance it a bit more. Dragic had a good game when FVV was out, i think he still have something in the tank to give esp playing motivated next to luka

Yeah this is really my question. He was really pretty good for Miami in their bubble playoff run. He was okay last year but seemed to be trending down. And of course this year he's barely played. If he's still capable of 20-24 good solid minutes a night and Kidd is willing to start KP/Kleber/DFS and then either Brunson/Dragic next to Luka with the other anchoring the 2nd unit with THJ then I could get over the value issue I think. As long as Dallas stays under the tax line this year, I don't think the added salary is too big a deal even if technically I believe Dallas is owed value. And obviously Dallas gains a bit of room under the tax next year with this deal.

I'd rather do it with OKC and get Favors, who's bigger and more physical than Theis, and is expiring next year and can be a base for a trade for other player easier, TOR would have to sit Burke at home until traded or bought out, since he's unvaxxed.

Yeah I'm mixed on that. I mean you aren't wrong in terms of value. On the other hand, Cuban has been adamant he will start spending big again around Luka after a decade of staying well under the tax line. So if a guy can help beyond this year even if he's overpaid I'm not against it. Dallas can't be a cap space team for at least 2 more years after this one realistically anyway so its just figuring out how to manage the tax line.

Decent marginal move for Mavs. Won't make or break the team, but makes them slightly better with no cost besides Theis last year, which is fine by me I guess.
Still, wouldn't make me want to watch them again.
