Oni is ung. and OKC will waive him. Not sure if there are any other aspects of this deal (e.g. cash, 2nd, etc.).

Have to imagine this is a precursor to another trade.

Ok anyone know why Utah didn't just waive him?

EDIT -- beaten to it.

No particular need to do this now, though, unless babyjax is right and something else is in the works.

Presti collecting them picks again. Deck is probably waived to create the roster spot.

OKC have to waive a player to make this work: it's Gabriel Deck.

Woj says it's Utah's 2028 2nd rounder...not sure how the whole calendar/picks thing works, but maybe THAT'S why it got done now if that pick just became tradable?

So they sold a 2nd rd pk for 2.4M? i thought people paid more for that at the draft last year

I’m wondering if this implies that all 2028 firsts are now potentially tradable .

Well the price for OKC is rather more, since they still have to pay Deck, unless his guarantee date was later in the year. Though it seems awfully late already for a contract to not be fully guaranteed.

Savings for Utah is the luxury tax .

Price for OKC is minimal since we are so far under the salary floor which would have to be paid out eventually .

I think picks are based on calendar year and not season.

The ____ and Shams breaking news from the Athletic is usually a sign that the other person had the sources and got the news and The Athletic is just attaching Shams to it for clicks. It annoys me so much for some reason.

7 years out, and we are on '22 so
22
23
24
25
26
27
28

'28 has been tradable since the season rolled over.

I kinda always assumed it was the opposite; shams got the leak and then the other person had to write and get all the spin/details.

Jazz save a little in luxury tax and open a roster spot. Oni was outside the rotation and not getting closer.

The big deal we were all waiting for.

I guess? If there's no follow up or something else involved it seems like a (very) minor loss for the Jazz to me.

Oni the Yale graduate will be playing elsewhere. Can't blame Utah for wanting to try something else especially considering the savings on the tax bill.

Sam Presti is the damn pick whisperer. He's like Cesar Millan in terms of being a pack leader when it comes to nabbing picks so far into the future.
