I like it for the Knicks. I'm a little surprised the Hawks settled for that pick this far in advance of the deadline.

I thought Reddish was the piece that was going to bring in an allstar. At least that what Hawks fans have posted

Missed the NY and thought it said Reddish to CLT for 1st. Was scratching my head about that.

Barrett and Reddish next to each other could be interesting.

Solid move for both. Some folks are still high on Reddish and the Hawks got a pick and freed up some minutes for other guys.

I actually love this deal for NY, low risk high reward.

This could be a precursor to a bigger deal.

Hawks have been trying to move him for a first for over a year, so not surprised by the return, but surprised they didn't wait it out to see what came up closer to the deadline

Hope this means Atlanta have other moves to make considering they accepting the pick pretty early with deadline 1 month away.

Good deal for the Knicks, mediocre for the Hawks.

The protections on that pick really limit upside:

2022 first round draft pick from Charlotte
Charlotte's 1st round pick to New York protected for selections 1-18 in 2022, 1-16 in 2023, 1-14 in 2024 and 1-14 in 2025; if Charlotte has not conveyed a 1st round pick to New York by 2025, then Charlotte will instead convey its 2026 2nd round pick and 2027 2nd round draft pick to New York

I think mid teens is about right for Reddish with the way he's currently playing, but would want slightly more upside than that. Not a bad deal though as that pick will definitely convey at some point and isn't going to end up in the mid-high 20's, so the floor is solid.

Like it for the Knicks though. Reddish seems like he could blossom in the near future. Could be a steal and if it's not they didn't have to pay top dollar for the punt anyway.

Edit: the Knox addition doesn't really change anything for me.

What's Reddish's next contract going to be?

Seems kind of like the type of price if ATL just wanted Reddish gone now. :dontknow:

Maybe they were also worried about him getting hurt before the deadline and offers getting worse?

No one really has significant money to overpay so I would think something similar to Oubre or even Terrence Ross. He might actually get as low as MLE money.

This seems about right for Reddish. Hasn't been great and is in the third year of his rookie deal.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Or maybe just having a cold stretch from 3?

I honestly hadn't rated his value at this level at the start of the season (or at least not much more than this), but his increased efficiency gave a little hope that he might be turning a corner. If he had some ugly games shooting the 3 ball, maybe that would hinder their ability to even get this much.

Maybe. But they’re also in a bit of a rut (losing 3 straight and 6-13 since Dec 1), and their GM has been talking about wanting to make moves for awhile. Makes me wonder if he regretted not dealing Reddish at the draft and wanted him gone now.

Plus, Hunter is back almost any day now, too.

Is this the Knicks way of getting Zion to force a trade there? Reunite the 3 Duke boys?
