It isn't "terrible" for the Cavs by any measure, you may not like the direction or prefer different options, but on value alone, the deal is fine.

Its not good for the Cavs at all though. You have them giving up a pick and Sexton and for what? Brunson is a UFA and THJ is nothing special on a big deal (though far better than Hield).

Go fetch Duncan Robinson, GTJ or Norman Powell for expiring alone, you think it'll work? and Sexton is RFA who's out for the season, Brunson is actually a PG playing great, and Cavs played very well with 2nd PG when Rubio was healthy, it's 2 2nds and late 1st, and 2 contracts for players out for the season, this isn't bad value by any stretch.

All 3 of those guys are better than THJ, so plz stop. And Miami would probably think hard about it if offered.

I understand we disagree on players' valuation, I'm not sure what I need to stop...

seems you missed the "its not good for the Cavs at all though" part.

They have Rondo to play backup PG now. Rubio did a very nice job as the 3rd guard behind Garland and Okoro (who you for some reason still aren't acknowledging exists, lol), and similarly Brunson might as well, but he's a RFA that CLE wouldn't reasonably want to pay market value to after this season. Hardaway is a nice stopgap bench scorer, but next year we can likely pay Sexton, who's 7 years younger, similar money to do the same thing.

The real key to this deal is your mention of "...for players out for the season". Well this deal has ramifications beyond this season that need to be considered.

Simmons and Harris for expirings is a hoot. I wonder how many more picks (and what kind of picks) they would need to do that. Everyone has their price, so ______.

Sorry man, Rondo changes the whole picture, he'll fill in for Rubio just fine, Brunson is redundant, the deal is bad the Cavs...

We might get a reasonable performance from Rondo, but he hasn't had a positive on/off over the course of a full season in a decade.

Rubio hasn't had a negative on/off in his career.

Not advocating for a Brunson rental necessarily-- he'd leave Cleveland for top dollar in free agency, guaranteed-- but Rondo is a band-aid.

This is really bad value for the Cavs. If they're interested in signing Brunson as a backup, they can let Rubio and Sexton walk, keep their picks, and make him an offer. If Dallas does outbids us because they can't afford to lose him for nothing, then the Cavs can hopefully sign Rubio and/or Sexton on player-friendly contracts. Alternatively, they can call the Rockets up and see if those two seconds and Rubio/Pangos get Gordon while keeping Sexton's RFA rights.

There are any number of options that are better than being obligated to pay THJ on his current deal for three full seasons after this one.
It is highly unlikely that the Cavs will agree with your Kevin Love evaluation for the purpose of a trade.

Well, the idea is not being obligated to pay THJ but have him as a plus, if you see THJ as a negative, then indeed, you would see the deal as bad. Brunson is not MLE player, he can't be signed by the Cavs.
I think I got enough feedbak from Cavs fans that don't like deal, so swing and a miss I guess.

A trade where all four teams are trying to make a push is never going to work. You either end up moving deck chairs or you create more problems than solved.

Here, the rosters don’t work. Using my Cavs as an example.

C: Allen/Davis
PF: Mobley/Love
SF: Markkanen/Osman/Stevens
SG: THJ/Okoro/Brown/Windler
PG: Garland/Brunson/Rondo

Moving Laurie into the 4/5 minutes mix more makes the Cavs worse because Allen/Mobley/Love are all better than him.

Brunson cannot pick up SG minutes in this scenario as the Cavs will have been overloaded with SGs.

So Brown and Brunson end up with less value to the Cavs than the Mavs and THJ doesn’t carry the value.

Good effort, but someone needs to be able to sacrifice value and fit to make trades like this work. (See the Harden trade last year when Cleveland paid for Allen (and ended up buying out Drummond) and Indiana was willing to take on a cancer recovering LeVert. )
