Challenge: Make a deal for Utah

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Fri Jan 14, 2022 11:15 pm

Thought we'd try something different on the Jazz board. We put together a list of players we are interested in, and what players and assets we have available. What are some deals people can see? What are some players we are missing that we should maybe be interested in? PERIMETER DEFENSE is our main need.

Possible targets?
Josh Richardson
Larry Nance
Marcus Morris
Robert Covington
Nic Batum
Josh Hart
Cedi Osman
Jae'Sean Tate
David Nwaba
Delon Wright
Christian Wood
Kyle Kuzma
Ben Simmons
Derrick White

Players available:
Jordan Clarkson
Joe Ingles
Bojan Bogdanovic
Rudy Gay (?)
Hassan Whiteside
Udoka Azubuike
Jared Butler
Elijah Hughes

Probably not available:
Rudy Gobert
Donovan Mitchell
Mike Conley
Royce O'neale
Eric Paschall

Picks available:
2022 MEM 2nd
2025 UTA 2nd
2026 UTA 2nd
2026 MEM 2nd (30-43 protected)
2027 UTA 1st (if not conveyed to OKC in 2026)
2028 UTA 1st

LAC out: Morris
LAC in: Ingles and 2 Utah 2nds

Boston out: Richardson and Schroder
Boston in: Clarkson, O’Neale, Utah 1st, and Memphis 2nd
Ingles is cooked.

I think its got to be cheap guys. So Batum if the Clippers will deal him. I think the Mavs might deal Sterling Brown and he'd come cheap. Kenrich Williams, same thing.

I'm not buying they'd trade Bojan or Ingles and I don't know about Clarkson or what he could return really. So with their tax bill and lack of tradable money, I'd look cheap. And Batum would be the top of my list.

What about something built around a Clarkson/KCP swap?

My thoughts exactly. Utah values continuity, and despite the nickname "Trader Danny" apparently doesn't tend to make many in-season deals either (though he did get Fournier last year). So my guess is that we make tweaks around the edges like last year, rather than move a guy like Ingles or Bojan (or Clarkson, especially if everyone sees him as negative so it costs us twice as much to get a good player back).

Batum is a nice fit and Utah has a TPE more than big enough (*IF* we're willing to take the tax hit) so that's where I would start. Failing that, Sterling Brown and Kenrich Williams are both reasonable options. David Nwaba from the OP is a possible fallback.

Dont see the celts trading Richardson for Ingles. I think they need his contract this summer.

so my deal would be

Azuibuike/$2M(from Clippers) to OKC
22 MEM 2nd/26 UTH 2nd to Clippers
Batum to Utah

Utah gets Batum, duh
Clippers save a good chunk of change even sending out the cash, get a bad 2nd this year and a distant 2nd as well
Thunder take a free flier on a young big

And if the Thunder have no interest, substitute a different team with a TPE who is.

I like this all-around.

I'll be honest that I do not understand the appeal of Kuzma. I'd rather have Ingles, much less include assets on top of him.

Raptors have a $4M TPE, but are less than $300K below the tax line. They might be interested, but they would need to move Boucher (into someone else's TPE??) or Dragic and save a couple of million in the process to stay under the tax.

Yah, seems like a fine target if he comes cheap. Would probably do Doke and a 2nd, or maybe 2 2nds to take him into our TPE.

What sweetener would the Sixers need to add to a Danny Green for Ingles swap?

Green has an additional year on his contract and Morey wants cap space for the upcoming FA class

Yes, he should be cheap, and either offer seems more than fair. You could choose whichever works better for you,

Justin Holiday for Jared Butler? Y'all have the TPE to make it work. Indy was rumored to have some interest in Butler pre draft. Not sure if they still would.

Or, maybe Indy is at a point to deal Justin for a couple 2nds? I don’t know.

I think if we deal Butler it's probably for someone who is more firmly a starting-caliber player. Not that he is guaranteed to be anything, but I like what I've seen even though there are some areas he needs to develop. That said if we did it, I wouldn't be upset.

I wouldn't imagine too much. Maybe 2 2nds? Green would be useful for us.

I could see a Green+ minor value for Ingles deal. Though I might try to turn that minor value into an upgrade somewhere else in the lineup vs just adding a couple 2nds to the bank.
