Okay, because I'm filling this out you can mark these down as not happening

1. Who will be the best player traded before the deadline?
Ben Simmons.

2. Who will be the most surprising player traded before the deadline?
Ben Simmons?
DLo (hopefully not in a Simmons deal!)

3. Which team will be the most aggressive sellers?
Sacramento

4. How many of the following will be traded (specify which)? John Collins, Jaylen Brown, Myles Turner, Domantas Sabonis, Russell Westbrook, Ben Simmons or De'Aaron Fox?
- John Collins: No
- Jaylen Brown: No
- Myles Turner: Yes
- Domantas Sabonis: No
- Russell Westbrook: No
- Simmons: Yes
- Fox: Yes

5. Who will be the biggest name on the veteran buy-out market?

1. Who will be the best player traded before the deadline?
Ben Simmons. A cop out answer but I expect someone will cough up Morey value.

2. Who will be the most surprising player traded before the deadline?
De'Aaron Fox, because it won't be in a Simmons deal

3. Which team will be the most aggressive sellers?
Portland. If Dame is out I expect they'll go full tank, selling off Nurkic, Covington and, if they can, McCollum to the highest bidders.

4. How many of the following will be traded (specify which)? John Collins, Jaylen Brown, Myles Turner, Domantas Sabonis, Russell Westbrook, Ben Simmons or De'Aaron Fox?
I expect Atlanta to trade for Simmons using Collins in combination with others, so there's 2. I've also said Fox so push it to 3.

Westbrook is untradeable. Brown would take a ransom no one is willing to pay. And if the rumours are true that Indiana are asking for multiple 1sts for Turner then I imagine there's simply no deal to be made. I doubt there's much real interest in moving Sabonis either.

5. Who will be the biggest name on the veteran buy-out market?
Dragic, but it's probably going to be a small pool this year.

1 -I'm not sure...but Simons/Beal should be...

2-Westbrook..I mean amazing ...because it has the unmarketable label...and it has been changed every 1 of the last years... A Westbrook+ trade for Harris/Green at point guard makes a lot of sense. 76ers eliminate 1 year of Harris and Russ fits quite well in 76ers
(special mention ... Randle will be moved ... now or out of season)

3-Blazers and Lakers...for different reasons...

4-Collins-No
Brown-No
Turner-Si
Sabonis-No
Westbrook-Si
Fox-No
Simoms-? maybe no

5-G.Harris

1. Who will be the best player traded before the deadline?
Turner. I think a Simmons deal doesn't happen

2. Who will be the most surprising player traded before the deadline?
Smart (will have to think on who my answer should be)

3. Which team will be the most aggressive sellers?
Portland unless you count OKC bludgeoning teams with their cap space

4. How many of the following will be traded (specify which)? John Collins, Jaylen Brown, Myles Turner, Domantas Sabonis, Russell Westbrook, Ben Simmons or De'Aaron Fox?
Collins: No since a better player won't be available
Brown: No Boston will try to make it work
Turner: Yes, it is time
Sabonis: No, the offers won't be there
Westbrook: No, the two players I could see a deal around are CJ or Harris and I don't see either team doing that currently
Simmons: No, the drama goes to the offseason as Morey holds out hope of a Harden S&T
Fox: No, the Kings want to win bad enough that offers to split him into multiple lesser parts are refused

5. Who will be the biggest name on the veteran buy-out market?
Dragic

My thoughts,

1. Who will be the best player traded before the deadline?
CJ McCollum, Jerami Grant, Myles Turner, Eric Gordon (not going to decide who is better between them)

2. Who will be the most surprising player traded before the deadline?
Don't know if there will be any surprise players.

3. Which team will be the most aggressive sellers?
Portland (tanking for a high pick and restart with Lillard)

- Domantas Sabonis: No
- Russell Westbrook: No
- Simmons: No
- Fox: No

I think there should be a 6th question - who will be the most impactful buyout player (different than biggest name). I am going with Gary Harris. Harris is putting up 12/2/2 on 44/36 splits, but his last 2 months have been back at his old Denver level - 15/3/2.5 on 49/44 in December, 16/2/1.3 on 44/38 so far in Jan - whereas his first 2 months and last 3 years have been a disappointment. It's going to be hard for contenders to create enough salary to absorb his $20MM contract without losing a key rotation piece, and at this point Harris is more of an in the margin upgrade (although a team like the Lakers desperately needs a guy like him). Combined with Orlando being loaded with young guards, it makes Harris a buyout candidate.

A team adding Harris would get a flyer on a 27 year old who was considered one of the better 3 and D wings in the league a few years ago - before the injuries and losing his jump shot.

My guess is he traded to Cleveland for something around Love.

Something like:

Gary Harris
Robin Lopez

for

Kevin Love
'22 FRP (lottery protected)

GH would insert in the starting lineup perfectly and Lopez will replace Loves minutes. No long-term money for Cleveland as well.

I'm doubt that Cleveland would be willing to give up a first round pick plus a rotation piece for an expiring contract. If anything, Love to Harris is a neutral move, but one could easily make the argument that Love is the better player. Cleveland has plenty of room below the tax next year to extend Sexton while using the taxpayer MLE and bi-annual exception so there is no need to use the draft pick to get off the last year of Love's contract.

Something built around Rubio potentially could work - but I don't see a FRP as part of the package. Maybe 2 2nds. Rubio saves Orlando some money and they get a couple of 2nds for a guy who's going to walk.

It would not surprise me at all to see Cleveland dangle Love and a pick, but I believe they will be looking for a long term piece in that process. As well as Harris has played the past 6 weeks, I am not sure he is a guy you trade for as a long term piece.

1. Who will be the best player traded before the deadline?
Myles Turner to the Kings - Ben Simmons not traded

2. Who will be the most surprising player traded before the deadline?
I think the Blazers finally part ways with C.J. McCollum

3. Which team will be the most aggressive sellers?
I actually think as an overall team that Houston acquires the most picks for veterans at the deadline.

4. How many of the following will be traded (specify which)? John Collins, Jaylen Brown, Myles Turner, Domantas Sabonis, Russell Westbrook, Ben Simmons or De'Aaron Fox?
I think Myles Turner and maybe if the right deal comes along, John Collins, but that's it pre-deadline.

5. Who will be the biggest name on the veteran buy-out market?[/quote]
Goran Dragic is the obvious one here. John Wall in a Blake Griffin type buyout? I wanted to go with something unique, but having trouble finding something. What if Orlando let's Terrance Ross choose his own team and they agree to a buyout if what they could get on the trade market wasn't anything crazy anyway?

I think Washington and Portland make some sense. Portland could use some rebalancing by trading back-court depth for front-court depth (I'm thinking Powell + filler) while Washington could trade some youth to get a second option to Beal if they are confident in him coming back.

I think that Morey could have had a part in that reddish deal to acquire another pick to attach to Tobias for a CJ swap. It’s starting to look to obvious that a swap for the two would make sense. Morey pays a premium because Tobias makes more and Portlands interim GM wants to look like he won the deal going away
