Where does Portland go from here?
Want to hear ideas.
Spotrac is fast, already updated (though they are missing Hart): https://www.spotrac.com/nba/portland-trail-blazers/cap/2022/
So Portland now about 74m committed for next year+holds+4m in dead money to Bledsoe and 2.6 to Nicholson (still).
Assuming they keep those guys let's call it 80.6. I really dont like any of the FAs for them. The two best ones are guards with a questionable CJ fit. Simons hold is 11m and Nurk's is 18, plus whatever picks they end up with. Leaving them with roughly 10m in cap.
They can move guys like Bled, Hart, Winslow. But I still don't see a lot of room there, and I really don't like the idea of just resigning Nurk and Simons, who will probably get close to their holds if not more, using up any meaningful cap.
So what splash can they make with what they have now? Is it a trade before the deadline? Trade at the draft? Moving guys to use space? Dame trade?
Also feel free to correct my back of the envelope math.
They currently go into next year with:
Dame/(Simons)
NAW/Bledsoe?/Keon
Hart/Winslow/Didi
Little/Greg Brown
(Nurk)

Re: Where does Portland go from here?
I’d nuke it now. Trade Nurk for a first if possible, trade Hart for another asset, trade Dame in a three teamer where Dame goes to Philly, Simmons to Minnesota, and expirings+picks from both teams come to Portland. Could join New Orleans and OKC in the myriad of picks club. I’d also waive Bledsoe now if he’d be willing to give up money.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

I think Ayton is the target and they hope to offer more than Phoenix is willing to match,.
Nice 1-2 punch with Dame and Ayton.
Then add in Anfernee SImons and the draft pick and team is looking really interesting.

Re: Where does Portland go from here?
Here is the way:

with a pick form Philly to Portland.
Everybody happy: Sixers, Harden, Nets, Dame, Portland.
Simons-Simmons could be a very nice backcourt and then they will have still 60+ M or more to re-sign Simons and add Ayton or someone like him

I'd blow it up at this point, they obviously don't want to do the middle of the road route and I don't see a way into contention in the near future around Dame.
I bought a boat.

Re: Where does Portland go from here?
I actually believe that they're going to try to build around Dame, not trade him. They're going to go after Harden and Beal this off-season I think. Doubtful that works but they can try

Re: Where does Portland go from here?
Wait and see how the beal/Simmons/Harris/harden story unfold in the upcoming season .
More realistically the owner seems to wanting to keep cost down so rebuild and try to get some value for dame as well .
Turn team over to Simons a high pick from their own pick and hopefully a high one from New Orleans .
Trade nurkic by the deadline as well.

I like this deal. In the offseason I would try use one of these picks + Bledsoe expring to get Turner and try to sign Beal/Irving.
A. Simmons
Beal(or Irving)
Little
B. Simmons
Turner
Then you still have Hart and a good 1st pick. This looks like a great rebuild for me.

To make the money work it basically would have to look like this:
Dame/
Beal/Keon
NAW/
Little/
Nurk/
Assuming they let Simons walk, move Hart and Bled's gt and their picks don't have high holds.

What do we think they could get for Nurkic if they put him on the block?

Hart cannot be aggregated with another player for salary purposes. You'd need to get someone else with Nurkic, and most of Portland's current roster is in the same boat!

So, Toronto will just try sending out dm's with dragic and 1st and hope someone will bite?

I'm hoping Charlotte puts in an offer.
Mine would be Plumlee and the remainder of the NOLA 1st (15-30, otherwise they get 2022 and 2024 NOLA 2nds) and the two Boston 2nds we got from the Hayward S&T in 2023 and 2024. Most likely to be 4 2nds, but some possibility exists that they get a 15th/16th pick out of it.
I'd hope Nurkic would entertain a contract extension for maybe 2 years
investigate Adam Silver

that would be quite the heist if deal like this happend. 2 below avg starters and guy who hasnt played in a year.. I don't see it since Dame is not being traded this year.
