What salary are the Celtics sending out?

We better be getting compensated for the extra 2 years. Schroder a better player and no long term money.

Did Celtics get under tax just to then go over the tax?

Unfortunately NBA reporting the past two years is absolute hot garbage because of Woj vs. Shams "gotta be first" competition, but Bruno Fernando and Enes Freedom are also part of the trade.

Saves Boston a little over $500k ($1m but for half the season) this season (not sure if that gets them under a tax threshold) and saves Houston Theis' remaining deal after that.

Don't like this for the Celtics. Horford and Theis will be difficult contracts to move next summer, and if the plan is to get Beal, I don't see how this makes it easier.

Houston getting out of Theis deal for free is nice but a bit anticlimactic. I expect Dennis to join Enes on waivers

They could structure it as two trades and just waive one guy.Devilanche wrote:loserX wrote:

Enes and Dennis for Thies, waive Enes, take Bruno into the tpe the previous trade generated
Probably going to waive Brooks

I think you can carry two extra players for a week or two after trade deadline - so no need to make cuts.
BOS shaves about $5 mil form combo of three trades - so below luxury tax with room to sign cheapy fillins.

You cannot. 15 player roster for standard contracts all year except for the summer when they expand to 20.

Re: [Shams] Theis to Boston for Schroeder
Hmmm, I guess the guy that told me that was confused by the bubble exception that allowed 17 during the bubble. Or, something else - who knows.
Well, with Kanters, DJ and Brook waived, the cap looks ok, except for EG and Wall who are expiring next year.
Question now is how high can we move up in the draft by adding EG/Wood/other to pick #17 (BKN - approx). Or, does Wood extend?

Re: [Shams] Theis to Boston for Schroeder
So....is this Boston having sentimental feelings? Because they're right now at a point where they have 3 guys (maybe 4?) all probably best at center than PF in RW3, Horford, Theis, and maybe Grant Williams? A bunch of ball handling guards in White, Smart, and Pritchard. And only 3 guys really in between in Tatum, Brown, and Nesmith? Obviously, they have 4-5 roster spots to fill, and will do so and stay under the luxury tax.
But for next year, they've got 9 guys and are only $11m under the luxury tax if they waive Horford. I guess they stretch waive Horford over 3 years and get to $20m under the tax? It's hard to see trading Horford as they've given up this year's 1st, Nesmith and Pritchard don't have a ton of value, Romeo's gone...etc. I guess they could try and pair either Smart or White with Horford? Far off future 1sts? Will certainly be interesting.
