2022 NBA Draft Open Thread

Post#1 » by HartfordWhalers » Thu Jun 23, 2022 10:57 am

Feel free to post any and all thoughts and discuss all the news and stories on the day in here.

In short, it is just like the General Thoughts thread, but a clean one for today.

When new does break of a trade, by all means feel free to post it in here but also post in as a stand alone thread.

So far leading up to the draft and since the season ended we have seen three deals:
55) Den/OKC: JaMychal Green/future 1st for #30/two future 2nds
56) Hou/Dal: Wood for #26/Marjanovic/Burke/Chriss
57) Det/Por: Grant for future 1st/2nds/swap of 2nds[/quote]

A little time for more coffee but then let the chaos begin :)

Are OKC and Houston trying to move up to get #1 and pick Banchero? Looked like Orlando wanted Jabari (not sure) so those vegas odds are super weird.

When you can move up and get Tatum instead of being stuck with Markelle Fultz, you really have to do it.

In no particular order I think here is a brief summary of where we stand with everything to be taken with a (massive) grain of salt. Anyone feel free to add but just to wrap up and review where the rumor mill stands:

#1 pick -- Suddenly favored to be Paolo {Paolo -200 versus Jabari +150}

#4 will be shopped for win now up to the pick by Sac

#7 Portland -- Pursuing OG with 7

Dejuante Murray -- Available for Jrue level package

John Collins -- Supposedly want to trade before draft and are talking but not close with SAS for Murray

Brogdon -- Supposedly played last game for Indy, and Turner offers will always be a thing

Philly shopping Thybulle/23/Harris

Charlotte might want off Hayward

Lakers might want off Westbrook

Knicks might want off salary

Gobert is wanted by a bunch of teams (Chicago, Atlanta etc)

Minnesota wants off Dlo and might want a traditional center to move KAT to 4, if not a lot more rebounding from the 4

Eric Gordon is available for the low cost of a 1st

This Banchero thing is really interesting, if its Houston trading up they must feel OKC is going to take him instead of Holmgren. Orlando would clearly be trying to move back and get their guy anyway so it can't be them. I feel like if this trade happens that OKC is going to shock everyone and take Ivey. They've been rumored to want him + Sharpe.

I honestly have no idea what the Kings will do.

Whoever they draft, I'll be waiting for a trade the entire first round.

I will buy that the Rockets suspect Thunder will take Banchero at 2. Also, if Banchero is off the board, Thunder may have Ivey ahead of Chet.

Rockets offer 3 + 17 + 26 for 1?

Magic can fill out a rebuild roster nicely and maybe still get their guy. This could make Chet available at 4 and we know the Kings are shopping 4. Chet and Sabonis...does it really work?

Rockets - Banchero
Thunder - Ivey
Magic - Jabari

??? - Chet?

Who gets Chet?

Rockets are going to have to offer a 2023 Pick to get to #1 with 17. 26 isn't a very valuable asset. I feel a team will offer the Kings at lot if Chets at #4 to the Kings (Spurs or Hawks come to mind)

Spurs are interesting to get to 4, having Murray. Even without Murray they're stocked with win-now pieces and draft capital at 9 + 20 + 25. They could turn Poeltl into 13 or 15 with Charlotte, consolidate and offer 9 + 13 at baseline for Chet.

Hmm Woj tweeting that 1-2-3 is fairly set and whats been rumored for a while, betters must've just been drunk with power last night, or somethings missing.

I love the Poetl trade for both.

McDermott should be traded as well.

Nothing's impossible, but I would be very reluctant to ever bet against Woj :D

On the one hand there’s the guy who has accurately broken 80-90% of NBA news over the last decade. On the other is a sports book which definitely is only interested in accuracy and there’s no ulterior motives to be found.

Not loving this draft class…at least the lotto any way. Banchero is the most interesting guy to me though.
