What would Kyrie have to do this season to earn a guaranteed max contract next summer?

Predictable.

What S&T options were out there for Kyrie? Trade override the Nets into taking on Westbrook's contract?

And for all Irving's self righteous BS he was never walking away from 30mil to sign for the TPMLE.

This won't be a 1 year thing, at least from the Nets perspective. I'm sure some other team might offer him the full max to steal him away but unless he can prove he can be on the court all season long without these (fully paid) sabbaticals for multiple seasons I just can't imagine the Nets willing to commit to him long term.

For as much as people say it's a business, this kind of stuff is still run by people. And Irving rubs people the wrong way wherever he goes.

He would have to be an All-NBA player who is healthy and available (no games missed for personal reasons) with absolutely no drama all season. Even then I'm guessing teams would be very hesitant to give him the full 4 year max.

Play in at least 60 games at his current production with no personal sabbaticals or other game-missing nonsense.

I'm in the camp that believes that the Nets will be willing to put up with controversy/mercurial behavior as long as he shows up to work and plays well.

Is there a waiting period for Brooklyn to trade him?

Just to keep the forum interesting.

I don't think so. As far as I know, many players get traded right after opting in.
But, it certainly put cold water on Irving/Durant trade rumor, since Nets don't really feel the urgency to trade him.

Well, he had one, but there were about 31 million reasons to not do that one

Kyrie was never opting out, I will be somewhat surprised if they find a trade partner. Looking around the NBA, he doesn't fit a rebuilding team... Only a team short a PG and wants to get to the playoffs.

Spurs after a DJM trade? hard to imagine Kyrie and Pop....
Orlando? Yeah... this one makes a bit of sense, and they have some young parts and contracts to put together.
Lakers? Naw, no assets.

Oof.. outside of that.. Tough to find a partner. Maybe Chicago if LaVine leaves?

Ship sailed likely but I mean if he plays 70 games and has an all star caliber season then maybe the Nets would sign him. I think he has shown that he can be a very negative locker room force so I think he has to change that reputation.

Shams is the player spokesman, especially for Klutch. Woj gets management's narrative. You know there is some remaining bad blood for the Nets to rub it in about the lack of sign and trade interest.

Now we see if he's traded. I think trade for Westbrook+FRPs was always going to be the only way he went to Lakers.

From here I wonder what he thinks of the Nets. Does he want to rebuild trust and sign extension or is trust gone. I'm sure Kyrie would think that the Nets owe him for this big favour of steering himself and Durant to them. Feelings are probably hurt right now.

Just funny how Fischer was wrong yet again, but people keep acting like he's anything but a grifter.

Also, the Kyrie "Pay Me Tour" is going to fun.
