Who wants the Hornets?

Post#1 » by NYG » Thu Oct 6, 2022 1:12 am

The Hornets look like a team that should just tank the year and build down to the studs around LaMelo.

Make your best offers...

PJ Washington
Terry Rozier
Kelly Oubre
Gordon Hayward

Which contending teams would have interest in those guys?

Rozier is probably the only one that might have a market for them. PJ Washington and Kelly Oubre aren't fetching much. Maybe a matching expiring contract and a SRP if you find a team that likes them. Hayward is going to be viewed as a bad contracts, and you'll either need to take back worse salary or give up assets in exchange for him.

PJ Washington would fit a lot of places. Can hit threes and act as a weakside defender. I would have loved him when we had Gobert. Denver seems like an excellent spot for him? They'd have to offer some combination of their prospects, maybe Braun and Nnaji for Washington + McDaniels.

Where is Terry Rozier a good fit?

Anywhere with someone who runs point on offense but doesn't defend 1s.

Feels like the market is pretty thin. Think you've got Washington and LA Lakers as teams that would probably actively look to acquire him. Depending on what it'd cost, I could see Dallas, Denver, and Philadelphia.

Washington - Will Barton and Rui Hachimura
LA Lakers - Russell Westbrook (along with either Gordon Hayard or Mason Plumlee and Kelly Oubre)
Dallas - Spencer Dinwiddie (or Davis Bertans)
Philadephia - HARD CAPPED
Denver - Roster limits

Pj Washignton - I'm not sure. Maybe the Nuggets or Grizzles

Terry Rozier - Heat or Mavericks

Gordan Haywood - Maybe the Heat. The Knicks might be interested.

Kelly Orbue - I'm not sure at all.

Why would Hornets part with PJ?

Are they going to match what he can get on the open market?

None of those guys has a lot of value, tbh.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Yeah I expect they would. Who else should they spend money on.

Why would Washington want to pay that kind of money for another undersized shooting guard that won't get many minutes with a healthy Beal and two recently acquired PGs? Barton at least can play the 3 against some teams; Rozier has no role on the Wiz unless someone gets injured.

Same reason why I think that if Russell Westbrook were to become a FA that the Wiz would have interest in him. Washington isn't so deep with talent that they're going to turn down talent.

I think we’d listen to offers but yeah, there is no real need to deal him

I don't post here on the trade board much but do read. I appreciate that while some would rather shoot down ideas of others, you are more of an idea guy. You are always generating new ideas for threads. Kudos to you

Hayward is injured again already. I think heat should be one’s sending a first here, not phx.

I'm intrigued with Rozier at the 2 next to Jrue. His 4 years remaining worries me though.

I could see maybe Brook + Grayson for Rozier.
