Nominate Jarrett Allen. Only 24 years old and he’s the defensive centerpiece behind the clear #1 defense in the league. He’s versatile enough to play a variety of coverages from drop to switching to hedging, so that impact is likely to translate well to the playoffs. He’s making $20mm a year and locked up until 2026. I honestly don’t see why someone like Rudy would have more value than him at this point.

Considered Sabonis, but I’m skeptical of how his defense will hold up in the playoffs. And then Barnes is another one, but he’s really struggling this year and I don’t think he has as much defensive potential as a lot of people thought due to his inability to contain the perimeter, and his lack of ball handling and burst limits his creation potential. I still like Scottie and think he’ll be pretty good, but I’m a little lower on him than I was last year. Although I will say, I trust the Raptors to develop him into a star more than basically any other team in the league, so his potential on the Raps exceeds my perception of his league-wide trade value.
