Siakam to Dallas

Post#1 » by MoneyTalks41890 » Thu Jan 19, 2023 10:18 pm

DAL out: Bertans, Dwight Powell, Josh Green, Jaden Hardy, Pinson, 2025 DAL 1st, 2025 DAL 2nd, 2026 swap (any pick owned by TOR), 2027 DAL 1st, 2027 DAL 2nd, 2028 swap (any pick owned by TOR), 2029 DAL 1st
DAL in: Siakam, Reddish

Mavs go all in for Siakam, who I think is a really good Robin for Luka and offers balance to the team.

TOR out: Siakam, Flynn
TOR in: Bertans, Powell, Green, Hardy, 2025 DAL 1st, 2026 swap (any pick owned by TOR), 2027 DAL 1st, 2028 swap (any pick owned by TOR), 2029 DAL 1st

Raptors bank on Dallas moving Luka at some point and profiting off a bunch of future unprotected picks and swaps.

NYK out: Reddish
NYK in: Flynn, Pinson, 2025 DAL 2nd, 2027 DAL 2nd, protections removed on 2023 DAL 1st

Knicks play a small role here, get a couple 2nds and cut salary.

Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk doesn't even play for the Raptors anymore. I think he may be on the Knicks. How are the Raptors going to trade one player for four? Fail on so many levels here.

How is it a small role when they're getting an unprotected pick and dumping a player they don't want?

I think Dallas should try and squeeze Trent out of this if they're trading literally everything they have to offer.

Siakam, Trent, filler
for
Bertans, Powell, Bullock, Green, Hardy, 3 1sts, 3 swaps sounds about right here

Luka/Trent/DFS/Siakam/Wood
Spencer/Pinson/THJ/??/JaVale

sign some forward depth and they've got this

Missed that on Svi. OP updated to make it Flynn. Just filler either way.

And Weiskamp and Juancho would be easy cuts.

what if it's THJ instead of Bertans? THJ really isn't needed in this scenario

NY is doing Dallas a favor by doing something that Dallas wants them to do. We can go back and forth about all of that, but it's definitely a small role. The pick will likely get worse as a result of NY playing ball.

THJ's contract is worse for a rebuilding team. More money owed in 3rd year.

Is there any way to remove Josh Green from the deal? Perhaps add Wood instead and include Bullock to NY. I personally am not sure there's enough touches to go around with Wood AND Siakam playing together. Not to mention I'm not sure he'd want to resign knowing his touches would significantly reduce. Something like the following:

DAL Receives: Siakam + Reddish + Hartenstein
NY Receives: Bullock + 2 DAL SRPs + DAL 23FRP protections removed
TOR Receives: Wood + Bertans + Hardy + DAL 3 FRPs + DAL 2 FRP pick swaps

Toronto isn’t really rebuilding though right? This would be a retool to build around Barnes/OG/2023 first. If it’s a rebuild, you’re trading OG and bottoming out for two years.

In a retool, THJ fills in as a 6th man on a declining contract.

Not debating the rest of the trade. I think Dallas would have to send DFS to a third team to get more value. And Toronto wouldn’t care about eating Bertans or THJ at that point.

But if Barnes/OG are raptors next year, I don’t expect them to be tanking. Trading Pascal would be to reset the timeline.

Using these three teams I’d try;

DFS to NY
Rose, Bertans, Green, 4 Dallas firsts, 3 swaps to Toronto
Reddish, Pascal to Dallas

Seems like it hits the price point for Toronto and NY should love our DFS at the cost of our first..

Usually Reddish because he’s a hot name right now. Not a hold up clearly.

Still yes to Siakam. Still think there isn't a realistic matching too bad for the Raps and certainly not the contracts in the OP.

Trades are rarely ideal. We kill too much of the good hunting for the unobtainable perfect.

I don't call it a favor when they're benefitting in every way. An unprotected pick is beyond valuable, and they dump a bust

I'd pass for DAL, Siakam doesn't fix any of the problems DAL has, can't be part of a 5 out offense, DAL most effective Luka offense, has injury history and is 29 y/o, he has Dejonte Murray value IMO, 2 unprotected 1sts + pretected one.
The fact Wolves paid what they did for Gobert, shouldn't set the price for other teams IMO, rather be a warning sign for them.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

Green/Bertans 3 picks and as many swaps as possible is decent value, and what i'd expect as bare minimum from a team that has Luka. Only upside in those picks is if Luka leaves or if he has a season long injury over a 5 year stretch

If this deal is done at the deadline they're taking a significant risk that the pick will lose value.

I want Siakam for what it's worth, just don't like the phrasing that NY is playing a small part doing favors. You have to give to get in and business, and NY is just getting here

i mean NY should be fully content not doing this trade, no? Unprotected this year really doesnt do much for them as its very, very, very unlikely for the pick to be in the top 10. They gain not much out of it while the Mavs are gaining Siakam with their help, as they cant do it without them.

If the Knicks dont need to do this, then ya, they need to be compensated for it.
