2023 first round draft pick to San Antonio
Charlotte's 1st round pick to San Antonio protected for selections 1-16 in 2023, 1-14 in 2024 and 1-14 in 2025; if Charlotte has not conveyed a 1st round pick to San Antonio by 2025, then Charlotte will instead convey its 2026 2nd round pick and 2027 2nd round draft pick to San Antonio

Hornets
Hornets protected 1st

Spurs
Jalen McDaniels
2023 Nuggets 1st

Spurs ensure they get a 1st round pick plus a player they have been linked to in rumors. The Hornets pick is lottery protected 2 more years then turns to 2nd rounders.

Hornets get back their pick. They can now enter talks for OG Anunoby starting with unprotected 1sts in 2024 + 2026.

Charlotte should not do this. Good chance that pick never conveys as a first and what need to they have right now to trade a volume package of picks. Trading for OG would be a major mistake. They still aren't very good with him added.

Spurs should take this and run away as fast as they can and thank the Hornets for the gift. While seeing if a team needing forward depth would give them a 2nd or 2 for McDaniels.

Fun variation

Hornets
Jakob Poeltl
Hornets 1st via Spurs

Nuggets
Mason Plumlee
Nuggets 1st via Hornets

Spurs
Bones Hyland
Nick Richards
Jalen McDaniels

Poeltl becomes a piece in a move for Anunoby. Rozier the other. Draft capital negotiable.

Spurs take a rebuild swing at Hyland and bring in a C rebuild placeholder in place of Poeltl. They've been linked to McDaniels.

Nuggets can trade a future 1st for more help as they look to contend for an NBA title.

I'm not sure how interested the Cavs would be but I would like to see them try to get McDaniels for a couple of seconds.

Wait so in this version the Spurs just decide to give Poeltl to Charlotte for giggles? You are literally suggesting Plumlee is worth Poeltl with this deal. I do not think the Spurs agree with this.

You have the Spurs trading Poeltl and returning the Hornets first for Bones Hyland who Denver is running out of town?

These valuations are all over the place.

That doesn't sound competitive.

Quoting Chuck, but no it probably isn't. For me, Love+Rolo for Hayward+McD+Kai Jones would seem more feasible.

Why not the Denver pick for the Charlotte pick straight up? If the Spurs want someone slated to go in the late first, it's good for them, and Charlotte gets full flexibility back. Maybe you can add McDaniels for the Spurs second or something. But I don't think SA actually wants Jalen. His agent is just trying to drum up interest.

Paying to move Hayward has been discussed ad nauseum. We don't need the money.

McDaniels doesn't make as much sense for the Spurs as he does for the Pacers and Jazz. Both are rumored interested and both have 3 first round picks in the 2023 draft.
