Eating Crow 13 Baker's Dozen
Well it’s that time again to look back and laugh at yourself, pull up a chair and eat some crow.
But first a blast from the past.
As always let’s look back.

As always it’s you not the other guy. As much as you want to say look what he said, it not about that.
It’s you eating you own crow.
So I’m starting off on a plate of Jalen Brunson crow medium well.
Mavs fans said he was good but all knowing me must have had a man crush on Dejounte Murray.
RJ Barrett, thinking he would under paid when his deal kicks in because he shooting 45/35/75 Got one right.
SAC King thing they would be fighting for the play in, over 5 games over 500
I'll eat more later
So T & T Board what type ”Crow” are you eating?

I’m mostly shocked that the Nets just fell apart.
Will take a bit and circle back with all the crow I know I need. Eric Gordon got a lot more than thought.

i thought lakers would have to trade one of their firsts just to unload westbrook and another first just to get talent. they did both with just 1 first.
I can hawk a loogie eight feet in the air and catch it with my tongue.

I didn't expect the Lakers to get significantly better while only trading one pick [and it isn't fully unprotected].
I didn't expect the Raptors to make a win-now type move with the disappointment so far.
For the rest, pretty straight forward deadline in terms of moves, nothing all that surprising.

I'll probably add more later, but I've often mocked proposed deals that have a lot of second round picks added in. Apparently having stupidly large numbers of 2nd round picks in a deal is very reasonable.

I didn't think Gordon had a trade market with his cap hit amount. I just assumed Rockets would buy him out in near future.

Apparently all I have to do to get my ex back is offer five 2nd round picks.

Re: Eating Crow 13 Baker's Dozen
Hmmm
I expected Portland to regret the GPII signing and him become a bad contract. They ended up getting 5 2nds, gotta be a win?
Didn't see the Lakers getting as much as they did for 1 1st. Expected Olynyk in place of Vanderbilt at a minimum.
Thought the Nets would try to hold onto Durant and instead make an improvement.
Didn't see OG staying in Toronto, even after the Poeltl trade.
Thought Plumlee could fetch more than salary savings (even though MJ loves his dough)

It’s best to eat crow when it is still warm.
My biggest helpings;
1-KD fetching such a huge return considering his age.
2-Westbrook being flushed so cheaply.

Re: Eating Crow 13 Baker's Dozen
Hoo boy, where do I start, lol.
I really thought Brooklyn had put everything together. After all the dysfunction they were finally rolling and just out-talenting teams on their way up the standings. I feel like I blinked and now it's all gone.
I fully admit I didn't think Denver would be *this* good.
I knew there would be growing pains in Minnesota but it still took them longer than I thought to get clicking. But things have improved and I'm hoping Conley pushes them along a bit.
I was rooting for Sacramento, and liked the Mike Brown hire, but I am stunned at how well he got that offence clicking. That has never been his strong suit but he proved me 100% wrong.
Those were my biggest misses but may come back with more.

Luke Kennard went much cheaper than I thought, cheapest shooter out of those signed in 21, and the best one of them.
I thought Wood had significant positive value, which Mavs would use to dump THJ, apparently not.
I thought Massai would lower his price for OG and GTJ to meet demand, he stuck to his guns.
Josh Hart went way higher than i thought

Didn't think Clippers would actually be interested in EJ, but here we are.
Thought Orlando was going to hold onto Bamba longer.

Re: Eating Crow 13 Baker's Dozen
Trade crow is our favorite time here.
Dallas. I didn’t think Dallas could trade for a second star with the pick debt, thought it had to be a complicated 4 team trade to get value and wouldn’t happen. Then I didn’t think Dallas would trade a first for Kyrie unless it was Bertans based. Once that was done, I thought Wood would be extended and Dallas would build around them in the offseason. Once he wasn’t extended, I thought he’d be traded.
I think I was wrong about everything Dallas did this week.
Outside of that.
I thought Toronto would trade at least one of their UFA, not add another. They have enough talent to not rebuild, but the talent all needs to be paid in the next two seasons and still it all doesn’t fit really well and almost all were involved in trade rumors. “It’s a business” only goes so far, similar to Wood feelings.. But Poeltl was cheap, so I get it.
Charlotte, I thought they’d sell low to get ready for their draft pick / Ball / Williams / PJ and maybe Bridges core. But their fans said they like Terry and Hayward. And honestly, they can be back to being a play-in team next year if healthy so no need to rush any direction. Just finish the tank and see how the lottery treats you. I don’t mind it really as long as they don’t lose their lottery spot over it, but I was wrong.
Brooklyn - I thought they were favorites. They traded Kyrie. I thought they’d trade for Demar or LaVine. They traded KD. I thought they’d dump salary. All wrong about them as well.
Miami. I thought they’d make a move to prepare for the decisions they have to make this offseason and balance roster... Vincent, Strus, Dipo.. I expected Lowry traded if not 1-2 of those guys. Then they traded Dedmon and I knew Lowry was traded. Then they just wanted the roster spot for a guy they like. I was wrong.
I thought Naz would find a new home. Thought Collins had to be traded this year at this point. I didn’t think GS could admit their failure in Wiseman. I didn’t think Bey had “5 second value” … Thought Indy would trade one of their late firsts. Thought Cleveland would take on salary. Thought Portland would make a big move..
Kind of feel like I need to get League Pass again.
Dallas. I didn’t think Dallas could trade for a second star with the pick debt, thought it had to be a complicated 4 team trade to get value and wouldn’t happen. Re: Eating Crow 13 Baker's Dozen
I'm mildly surprised that the Nets didn't move more salary at the deadline.
I'm really surprised that Bamba was basically gifted to the Lakers.
Kennard went for less than I thought.
Disappointed but not surprised that the Cavs couldn't turn LeVert into a shooter without eating a bunch of bad money. I suspect that one of the issues the Cavs ran into was teams asking for Okoro in all their trade discussions, and when the guy you took No. 5 overall starts figuring things out halfway through his third season, you don't do that.

Re: Eating Crow 13 Baker's Dozen
I was honesty surprised Portland made so many trades. None of them were difference makers, but they intentionally got just under the luxury tax line this off-season, so I expected that they would coast through the season and deal with getting under the luxury tax line next year during the next off-season. But they seem pretty committed to Jerami Grant. And shed enough salary to make retaining him realistic.

Regarding #2 - I think people forget how high a value teams place on 1st rd picks, and how low a cost it is to move off half a year of matching salary.
Think about it, how many role players were traded this week? And how many 1st rd picks were traded in deals for role players. Expanding on this, the Knicks gave up a protected 1st for Josh Hart, the Raptors gave up a protected 1st for Jakob Poelti, and Utah was able to consolidate three players to get a lightly protected 1st from the Lakers.
Frankly, I'm surprised that the Raptors are encumbering their draft assets for the next 4 years potentially for Poelti. The Knicks have excess draft capital so they could justify overpaying for the guy they wanted as they try to climb into the top 6. And frankly, Utah did well landing the pick they did from the Lakers. Beasley likely wasn't brining back a 1st by himself, neither was Vanderbilit and neither was Conley. And Utah picked up this pick, the most valuable first traded outside of the KD/Kyrie deals, getting off long term salary.
