Wendell Carter Jr. “A real asset!”
23 years old:
Pts: 15.6
Reb: 8.9
AST: 2.4
3 year De-escalating salary of 13, 12 and 11.
Still believe the Magic should use WCjr (a real asset) to upgrade their Guard position. I just think that his best utilization offensively is to get him the ball in the mid to high post and let him blow by bigger slower defenders, over power smaller defenders, take the jump shot when he is given space and be a face up passer playmaker…..sound like anyone? Yup, Paolo Banchero.
WCjr is good, cost controlled and young, so I believe he could actually bring some value back. Depending on whether or how much draft compensation you add to WCjr the return can really vary!
So the question to me is wouldn’t the magic be better off using him to find a similar talent level at the guard position?
Feel free to throw in the magic draft compensation as appropriate to find the best perimeter shooting/scoring fit for Paolo/Franz
Magic draft assets: own 23 1st, Bulls 23 1st (1-4 protect), own 24 1st, own 25 1st, Den 25 1st (1-5 protect)

I like the idea of him in Dallas, but it would take a third team who prefers a draft pick from Dallas to WCJ.

Let's say Dallas ends with...the 10th pick?
10 + filler to GSW
Poole to ORL
WCJ + small asset to DAL

Dallas need to make rim protection and overall defense their priority. I would not have Carter as a guy worth investing asset into. Not that he isn't a good player. He is, and that's a value contract. But he is not what Dallas needs. They should just pay Christian Wood if they want a part-time offensive center.

I don't think WCJ is in the same tier of "bad" as a defender as Wood is, but he's not a rum protector for sure. I really hope Dallas can get Capella, just seems like a great situation for both parties. WCJ would be fun on offense with them, though.

I think they are both "bad" defensive centers. Wood offers more shot-blocking, but is slight and foul prone. Carter more fundamentally sound but still defenses still look to attack him.
I agree Capela would be perfect in terms of what Dallas needs and what they can realistically afford. He can do enough rim rolling on offense to be playable and offers a lot more defense and rebounding than Powell. 48 playoff minutes of Capela and Kleber isn't elite center play, but its good enough center play if they can retain Kyrie and find one more 3&D wing to replace Doe Doe.

Love it for ORL but I'd want to add a little salary going out (Fultz? Isaac?-both only partially guaranteed). Poole could have the brightest green light around and run PnR with two fantastic young forwards who are getting no room to work with ORL's inept backcourt scoring. Poole would be an All-Star, probably putting up 26ppg and as many assists as he wants. Maybe Suggs steps up enough to run next to him in the Marcus Smart role. It's the plan I always had for CJ McCollum in POR. Spring him from the HOF vet's shadow and give him his own show.
I'm always talking WCJ to POR for Simons...both teams better overnight.
Either would leave a big hole at C for ORL, but I'd rather try to fill that one than "backcourt scoring machine". Suggs is a nice complement for Simons long-term, hopefully as soon as next year.
WCJ is a really good player, including defensively. He's not a big shot blocker, but that's not a big indicator of post defense and a lot of shot blockers aren't good rebounders or defenders (because they're chasing everything). WCJ is very heady, very skilled, very strong, very versatile, and still very young. He sets picks, passes, starting to hit 3's, finishes PnR. My position is that ORL, given their forward tandem of Paolo and Franz, might be better served with a throwback rebounding, defensive-minded center...maybe easier to find. I'd be fine rolling with WCJ, but I agree he might be the best trade chip to remedy the more urgent need at guard.
I keep thinking he might be a better complement to Mobley in CLE as he can go 4/5 easily and pass and shoot better than Jarrett Allen. Allen's a beast at what he does and I'd love to see him anchoring ORL at 5...strictly a fit thing, ORL probably has to add a late pick or a player, but I don't think the gap is great. WCJ is not elite at anything, but he's very good at everything.

Re: Wendell Carter Jr. “A real asset!”
To suggest that Carter is a good player but is the asset to strengthen the guard position is laughable.
ORL traded Mo Bamba to the Lakers for a 2nd round pick and Patrick Beverly. Then spun around like a top, released the $13M Beverley and now you think they need to upgrade at the guard spot.
The move was there, you had Bamba to offer you could have made the effort to get a guard that you could use instead of a guy you were just going to cut. Add to that Beverley shows up in Chicago, gets the starting PG position, gives the team a kick in the pants with hustle and defense and they've improved their record and are actually in the play in, unlike before.

What about Anfernee Simon's and filller for WCJ and Harris?
Orlando gets a young, talented offensive guard, Portland gets a young, talented big man.

If POR can add Jurkic to the deal and bring in another player somehow, I would like that.
I think Simons would be good for ORL and WCJ for POR.

Bamba wasnt getting anyone. as evidenced by what they got for him if nothing else.

I would do a separate deal with Dallas and swap Nurkic for a S&T Woods.

Re: Wendell Carter Jr. “A real asset!”
The problem I have with trading Dell for a guard is you are just trading one hole (SG) for another. Unless the Magic have some sort if secret cheatyface deal to bring Orlando's favorite son Nikola Vucevic back on a team friendly deal in free agency, it would by nigh impossible to replace Dells production for the insanely low cost we pay him.
And I don't think we should be planning for Wemby to walk through the door to replace him with how bad our odds will be by the end of the season.

Just throwing Nurk’s bloated deal into the mix is a huge add. Changes the whole dynamic, imo.

Re: Wendell Carter Jr. “A real asset!”
I’ve been on board with a Simons for WCJ deal for a while now. I’m guessing Orlando needs to add more players to make salary work. Portland has a nice collection of 2nds if there is something that only needs slight tweaking to make it work.

I’m fine making a trade for WCJ and looking for a separate deal for Nurkic. I don’t consider it a dealbreaker to have 2 decent centers given how things we have been at center over the years.
