DET: Bojan Wiseman Hayes #5 for MIN: KAT

*With DET as not being a FA hotbed due to current standings in the League figured I'd give it a shot to secure a "name brand player" who along with Monty Williams would help in changing the culture

DET:
Ivey Cunningham Diallo Stewart KAT

KAT said he changed the game and gets his chance to do so once again as the unquestioned Alpha in a new city in a new system and a new coach who'd surely get the most out of him.

I love Beef Stew next to KAT along with Duren to be the enforcer tough guys on that team, something which KAT isn't.

MIN
Conley Edwards Bogdanovic McDaniels Gobert

MIN recoups asset-wise from the Gobert trade by acquiring a win now SF in Bojan, a possible future franchise PG in Killian Hayes, potential franchise C in James Wiseman, and #5 to draft young gunner (in a good way) SG Cam Whitmore (or F Jarace Walker but MIN seems set there).

Gives Hayes time to learn behind Conley, Wiseman time to learn behind Gobert (instead of the KAT Gobert clash), and Whitmore the ability to play behind Edwards and make a name for himself (who I am very high on).

Yes it's a possible overpay (in some peoples view) and not enough (in other's view) but sometimes that's just how it is.

Thoughts?

That really seems like a lot of "Franchise" level players for just lonely old Kat.

Really bad for Minnesota. They’re trying to win now, and this is definitely not the direction they want to go. And be serious for a sec here; wiseman and Hayes are unwanted. They are not potential franchise players, and for them to be described that way is laughable. This is essentially the #5 and filler for KAT, which isn’t close to fair.

Far too weak of a return for Minnesota.

I don't assign any real value to Wiseman/Hayes, so would be fine with them not involved. Bojan/#5 for KAT is fair range for me, but I'm generally lower on picks than most. Don't think I'd target Whitmore for the Wolves (look more at the Thompson twins) or even Hendricks (could maybe move down for that).

I like the base of the deal for both though, has my endorsement.

Ok cool because I'm not sure how different fanbases see Hayes though I have an idea of Wiseman (that he's not particularly liked). Swayed towards Cam because as a Magic fan I want is to get the Twins lol

Fair enough which is why stated some will say not enough for KAT while some may feel KAT isn't worth all of the above.

Where do Minnesota sign?

If Minnesota thinks Amen or Walker are future two way stars?

I still think they can ask for another low end asset here.

Or let Detroit keep their guys and get 5 and another real asset? And if you want you flip that real asset for win now help but you are pretty happy starting Rudy/Walker/Jaden/Ant/Conley with Naz/Slomo/Bojan off the bench. Need to invest in a strong young point guard pretty clearly..

Sort of interesting to bring Conley/Bojan/Rudy back together.

Wiseman makes almost as much as Naz is going to make on his new deal and will likely never be better than him. Just keep Naz.

For Detroit.. This only really makes sense if Cade is healthy and you somehow know he’s playing 70 games and is a star..

I don’t think they’re ready for a win now move. Once Cade gets healthy, they should have a strong asset base around him thanks to these high draft picks and will be in really great shape.

Not the direction the Wolves FO wants to go - they want to win and keep pushing further into the playoffs. IF Kat gets dealt (I wouldn't completely rule it out, but would say I'd be pretty surprised at this point), its mostly likely to get pieces that fit better now.

McDaniels is the starting SF, its his best position. He can play smallball PF but that's not going to be his fulltime position. So Bogdanovic overlaps there and isn't the cleanest fit. And #5 has value, but just not the type of win-now value they want.

I dont think anyone can say with a straight face that Hayes or Wiseman are future franchise anything besides deep bench spots. There's no value there.

I think Detroit would have to give a 2nd #1 just to get in the ball park for this because Hayes and Wiseman are pretty much failed picks at this point.

I mean, yeah, we probably do that.

Hayes and Wiseman suck.

Pass for both. I’m a Pistons fan and I don’t want KAT and I’m optimistic that’s the T’Wolves could get a better offer.

This should be an easy no for Minnesota. The Wolves would be much better off keeping KAT and seeing how things play out next season.

Wolves should easily get a better off than this

Was your title supposed to make me think of Bojack Horseman?

Agree with the others, i think this misses the mark. There are some pieces for sure that I think could interest the Wolves. Sub in Bagley for Wiseman, add picks going towards Minni. If they feel there is a franchise player at #5 (and there could be) then it make sense...

Lol at Hayes and Wiseman being potential franchise players. The value the Pistons give up is probably light, but I still wouldn't do it. Duren is our C of the future and KAT is soft and doesn't seem like a winning player. Would rather shoot for someone who fits better.

OP must be a use car sale person with this line "MIN recoups asset-wise from the Gobert trade by acquiring a win now SF in Bojan, a possible future franchise PG in Killian Hayes, potential franchise C in James Wiseman, and #5 to draft".

At first I didn’t like this. Mainly because I disagree with your valuation of Wiseman/Hayes. Realistically, you are hoping these guys can be solid rotation players. And, also, because I don’t agree that KAT would, or should, be the “alpha” in Detroit. Cade and Ivey need to run the show together and I would be honestly worried about KATs role in their development. Furthermore, it accelerates Detroits timeline by taking on such a massive contract.

That all said, I do like the idea of Duren and KAT together. And with the defensive potential of Duren/Cade/Ivey the Pistons might actually be a great fit for maximizing KAT. And I do think KAT has been showing some development as a passer/facilitator.

On the other side, i think the haul for Minnesota is better than people here are seeming to think. Bojan is worth a pick, and a guaranteed top 5 pick in a good draft is worth a lot. So ideally Minnesota would be getting a high value prospect, a vet that can help immediately, and two solid flyers.

But really it all depends on how you value the top 5-7 of the draft.

It’s not a bad a trade proposal, both teams walk away a little uncomfortable but mostly excited. Detroit hopes to be fighting for a playoff spot and Minnesota lands more on a timeline that fits Ant. Good job

Appreciate it.

And yeah I felt MIN gets pretty darn good value. Bojan can spread the floor and open up the lanes more for Ant to work which definitely helps him and Minny's "compete/ win now" stage. Whomever they get at #5 is the player they'd hope to be the 1B to Ant's 1A while they pray their coaching staff can develop Wiseman and Hayes into the type of PG and C they need moving forward to eventually replace Conley and Gobert.

Franchise is a stretch when describing them but they also are still young and can be molded into what Minny would need them to do which is play off of Ant and #5 once developed with Wiseman at least having the tools to become a legit star. He just has to realize it.

DET gets their franchise player in KAT as a foundation for Monty to then plug and play the right fits around him as his style is he can be a "wildcat" aggressive scorer but he plays like a "kitten" defensively, hence Beef Stew and Duren who absolutely love to play with contact and physically aggressive basketball more than make up for KAT's lack of it on that side of the ball.

Having KAT and the young fellas improve along with DET paying Monty is a sign they are very very serious about regaining their competitive form which may lead to them being able to attract a FA to help them win it all or make other moves to get them the pieces to be even better. They'd need a SF and shooters but they wouldn't be far off imo.

I'd probably hold my nose and do it as Detroit, just because I think we could probably get pretty good value out of KAT in another trade in a couple seasons if it didn't work out. But I'd hate it if I were a Minny fan, which probably says something.
