CONTEXT: Atlanta is currently sitting at 12-18 without much hope of getting materially better, other than Jalen Johnson. They have a few young wing prospects who have flashed (AJ Griffin, Kobe Bufkin, Mo Gueye) but realistically they need more talent to truly contend, particularly working around Trae who has improved significantly on defense but is still a scrawny 6'1 guy. Bogi and Capela are also older, and falloff should be expected.

With that said, Atlanta looks to soft reset by de-consolidating and trade its quarters for 3 dimes apiece. Here are a bunch of isolated trades that I wanted to float:

Trade 1:
Atlanta sends Clint Capela
OKC sends Cason Wallace, 1 FRP, 1 FRP swap, Poku, Tre Mann

For OKC - They are one of the worst rebounding teams in the league, and have no true C on the roster. Chet is phenomenal, but they are going to get shredded by Jokic/Embiid/Sabonis. Capela addresses that need without impacting their core at all.

For Atlanta - Cason Wallace is a really nice complementary player who effectively defends. His ceiling probably actually isn't that high, but he should be able to play off Trae in most matchups (barring big SGs). Picks are picks.

Trade 2
Atlanta sends Dejounte Murray, Bogdan Bogdanovic
Houston sends Jalen Green, Tari Eason, Oladipo, Tate

For Houston - they really need better guard play as Jalen Green has regressed. This trade gets them two quality guards on solid locked in contracts while only moving one of their young forward prospects.

For Atlanta - I really like Tari Eason as the fit next to Trae. I am not high on Jalen Green, but I think they need to bet on ceiling.


Trade 3
Atlanta sends DeAndre Hunter
Indiana sends Jarace Walker, Jalen Smith, James Johnson

For Indy: They are playing really well but their forward situation is a mess. Hunter can immediately step in and contribute, while also being young enough that there's a future there.

For Atlanta: This is a bet that Jarace Walker can develop into a low-usage glue guy in two seasons

These are all aiming too high imo. Hunter and Capela don’t have that value. For DJM, depends on how you’re valuing the Houston guys. But Hunter and Capela are protected 1st or 2 types not recent good lotto picks.

Trade 1- Nowhere close to Capelas value. Atlanta won’t be able to get Cason Wallace for Capela.

Trade 2- Looks decent to me value wise but Houston already has Fred Vanvleet at point and Amen Thompson long term.

Trade 3- Jarace Walker is more valuable than Deandre Hunter. This isn’t close either.

I voted Hunter to Indy but the price in the proposal is way too high.

What the hell.

Capella for a good PG Prospect and multiple 1sts? Keep dreaming.

How are they tearing it down when they owe San Antonio two unprotected picks in 2025 & 2027 and an unprotected swap in 2026?

I liked Walker coming away from the draft and in SL, but he's been relegated to the G-League for the most part and it's not like there's a murderer's row in front of him in Indy. I would have thought he'd be able to get some scratch minutes in front of Jalen/Isaiah/Nwora

Short term all I think this costs them is Eason's energy minutes. Jalen Green is a net negative on the court right now.

Long term, I can't imagine Houston picks up FVV's option for $45M after next year. I project Amen as a future ball-dominant wing, akin to PG or Tatum. Their future core in this scenario would be DJM/Amen/Jabari/Sengun and Brooks or Bogi depending on if they need offense or defense

I'm not sure fair or unfair is the issue. Pacers do need size on the wing but is Hunter the answer to Giannis or Tatum or Butler? I think we need to be more patient. I'm not ready to give up on young talent in hopes of a quick fix. Now if you were after Hield, or TJ or even Toppin or Brown or a first or two I'd feel differently.

Their problem is too much depth and lack of a third star, specifically a missing star PF. This is why Jalen’s emergence is so impactful this year, but even then they need an upgrade.

I wish the Siakam trade came to terms in the summer.

I'd do Fournier + FRP for Capela

Im 100% sure all Hawk fans are going to hate this... but IF I were Atlanta, Id look to trade Young.

I totally get the desire to stay competitive and make the playoffs routinely, but I don't think one can build a contender around Young.

They can't tear down now since they don't have a lot of their own picks. They just need to keep fixing the roster and see if it works out.

If Hawks players were this valuable they'd be winning a lot more.

Hawks aren't this bad talent wise, but this team is clearly spiraling amid all the trade rumors.

The players do not fit the coaches new system...and Quin has seemed reluctant to dumb down the offense/defense in response.

Have to agree here. We're getting way too much in value.

Clint's probably closer to 1 FRP and salary relief. Hunter probably depends on who's interested.

I think we're getting enough in trade 2, but I'd probably just break Bogi and DJM up into separate trades, so that way we're not getting all of our value in salary relief.

I like some of the teams you’ve chosen as trade targets, but all these prices are too high.

Step One in a rebuild is to give whatever it takes to get ATL’s picks back from the Spurs, even if it feels like an overpay. If you start the tank elsewhere, those picks become even more valuable, and SA won’t sell them. Once you control them, even if it’s an overpay, you can make them more and more valuable with every additional trade you do that moves you off talent.

I wonder if 25 year old Trae would work on the Spurs? Or is Pop 100% committed to tanking this year, as it certainly seems? It isn’t easy to find star-level free agent talent if you’re San Antonio.
