Now it starts. I’ll say Ben Simmons. It’s just a lot of money for a guy who can’t stay healthy and seems to be still experiencing the yips.

Vote Deandre Ayton
I think nobody wants to eat 30 million+ for this type of center anymore, BS gives you nothing for 40 mil but is one year shorter.
Nominate Andrew Wiggins

V: DeAndre Ayton
No realistic path to being an average/above average starter, let alone all-star. Really disappointing on-court and off-court, when centers who can start around his level can make MLE or less money.

Vote: Green (I don't think anyone outside of GSW wants him)
Nominate: Ayton
With respect to Simmons or anyone else expiring in a year and a half, this year's books are pretty set. I don't see those players much different now versus this offseason, especially for a rebuilding/tanking team. They're costing you one offseason of opportunity cost at this point.

Pretty comfortably Ben Simmons. While I like him as a player, his lack of availability makes that a hard contract to move.
On that note, nominate Lonzo Ball.

Ball is expiring next year at 15% of the cap. There are worse contracts.

Ayton is already on the list.
Simmons (and others) is about zero production for big money.
Others who have longer/bigger contracts (like Poole) provide production but are overpaid.

Vote: Ben Simmons
IMO there's a 'big 3' of bad contracts and the others went 1 and 2. Even with just 1.5 seasons $60M for nothing is a lot of bad money. Take $60M off the other's contracts and they'd all have clear positive value. (this is like getting Draymond at $10M/ry).
Nom: Ball
Due to health, essentially a half-price Simmons which is less bad but still pretty bad.

For every contract on this list, I can see a context where a team would consider exchanging an expiring contract for the player. In contrast, zero teams would trade an expiring contract for Lonzo Ball. No team wants to spend 15% of their cap space on a (functionally) dead contract, availability is a huge indicator for value.

I'd rather eat Ball for a year than be stuck paying a 13/11 big who can't pass, has a limited offensive game and limited offensive upside, and doesn't defend at a high level for 3 more years at a larger number.
