Best offer for these Knicks assets

The point of this exercise is to see what the Knicks can get using these limited assets to improve their roster short term.

Evan Fournier's expiring contact
Protected WAS 1st rd pick - protected top-12, top-10, top-8 through 2026 then becomes 2 2nds (26/27)
2024 UTA 1st rd pick - currently #43 which could slide into the mid to high 30 range if UTA does some tanking again

This package is essentially 3 2nd rd picks with some variance upside - most likely outcome is two 2nd rd picks in the mid to high 30 range (UTA 24 and WAS 26) with the upside of a 3rd 2nd in the high 30/low 40 range. But there is some potential for the pick to convey. So better upside all around than most 3 2nd rd pick packages.

NYK's goal is to get a win now piece with a window open to jump into the top-3 this year, without hurting long term flexibility. NY really needs another guy who can create shots, ideally a front court player. BUT, this exercise is not designed to start throwing other assets into the mix.

Bojan Bogdonovic from DET feels like the right fit. Can play small ball 4 while Randle is out and becomes a 3rd scoring option off the bench come playoff time. DET would likely ask for their own first returned, but that's a higher upside pick that NY should hold for a larger deal. I'd also roll the dice on Harrison Barnes if he was made available.

I'd look at Gafford and Kispert and/or Ty Jones before the options you listed even if it meant adding the Pistons first.

Not sure NY can add both Tyus and Gafford salary wise, but both would fit nicely as short term pieces.

I think Bogdonovic fits better since NY needs front court depth

I think you might be able to land a $500 Google Play Gift Card and the rights to Dikembe Mutombo today for this. I bet you can also get like a 2nd round pick and a 20 piece McNugget (with all the sauces) for like a month too.

Poster already warned for trolling, nobody respond to this please.

It'll be Bruce Brown. The FOs going to give Thibs as many dogs off the bench as they can...McBride, Grimes, Brown, Hart, Achiuwa, Robinson/Hartenstein, Sims, etc.

Still waiting for us to bring Jae'Sean Tate over for Flynn & a SRP, as well.

To clarify the Knicks biggest need - a third player who can create offense.

Can be a backup point guard or combo forward with combo forward being a better fit.

Backup center is less of a need.

Hield and Brown are not great fits on the current roster

A 3 way with the Lakers that sent Brown to LA and Rui to NY would be more interesting.

Brogdon for Fournier and the WAS pick

This isn’t bad. Would result in McBride losing his rotation spot.

I like the idea in the OP.

I would also add Grimes to that package if you want a little better option.

Quentin Grimes for Payton Pritchard

My goal with Grimes would be to pick up more years of rookie control for a better fitting piece. NY has a bit of a 3/D logjam off the bench with McBride/Grimes/Hart and I would like to flip grimes for a playmaker on a rookie deal. One idea I had was Grimes for Jalen Hood-Schifino. A bigger point guard - like JHS or Malcom Brogdon - allows McBride to shift up to an undersized 2 role.

That's the question, isn't it. Do we need creation or will adding a no-defense guy like Bojan or Clarkson undermine what's making this team work? Sounds like our FO isn't so sure that creation is more important than fit & thibsy-ness. Brown is not a creator himself, but he can help organize the offense when Brunson rests; next to McBride, Grimes, or both of them; and he'll just add to that energy on defense & in transition. While also giving us another viable option for that closing lineup.

That's why I'd love Caruso so much. Again he wouldn't be a scorer, but he could run the offense and get Julius the ball in good spots, while helping him feed McBride/Grimes open 3s, and he could make our defense even more controlling by giving us the option of closing games with Brundle next 3 All-defensive team caliber guys...OG, AC, & Mitch.

It’s a tough question. I’m concerned about the shot creation becoming an issue in the playoffs similar to 2021.

The Brogdon idea is interesting because you add playmaking without sacrificing defense.

I’m just not sure if Brown-Grimes-Hart is too redundant, not to mention it takes McBride out of the rotation.

Playoff minutes between the non-Brundle or RobinHart members of the rotation will depend massively on matchups and shooting.

Donte's on fire now, but is a carer 31.2% 3pt shooter in the playoffs. He's chippy defensively, but if he shoots 31% from 3 and teams are ignoring him in the playoffs for us, then he's not worth playing over the better defenders.

Grimes & McBride are currently our best guard defenders, but both kids are unproven as shooters in the playoffs despite being amongst our best so far in their careers.

Brown & Hart are both poor shooters that teams could ignore in the playoffs and so loose minutes to DDV, Deuce, & QG if those three are forcing teams to respect them.

Similarly Achiuwa's defense right now is so good that he'd warrant playoff minutes, but he's a non-shooter. So playing him anywhere but as a small ball 5 could be untenable in a playoff series if our shooters aren't firing.

That's why I think it's important we give Thibs different options & depth...on top of injuries, we just don't know who's shooting will hold up and who will go cold under the brighter lights.

Just an FYI, if the Knicks need to MAX OG Anunoby, they cannot trade Fournier for a guy like Brogdon without being over the second tax apron next year unless they let Hartenstein leave and even then, they would still be over the first apron.

Julius Randle $30,317,760
Jalen Brunson $24,960,001
Josh Hart $18,144,000
Mitchell Robinson $14,318,182
Donte DiVincenzo $11,445,000
Miles McBride $4,710,144
Quentin Grimes $4,296,682
Jericho Sims $2,092,344
OG Anunoby $42,601,800
Isaiah Hartenstein $12,500,000
Malcolm Brogdon $22,500,000
17th Overall $3,857,520
24th Overall $2,853,840
Minimum $1,168,824
Minimum $1,168,824

Total Salary $196,934,921
Cap Space -$54,934,921
Tax Space -$24,334,921
1st Apron Space -$17,334,921
2nd Apron Space -$6,834,921

Throw in the Detroit 1st as well plus Mitch Robinson and Fournier to Washington for Daniel Gafford and Kyle Kuzma. Gafford isn't as good as Mitch in drop coverage but he's quicker, more switchable, healthy, and Kuzma gives you another creator who can play either forward spot when Randle returns.

I think Bojan is probably the best fit. Bruce Brown next. Malcom Brogdon makes some sense.

If you’re willing to take on long term money maybe Deandre Hunter, Bogdon Bogdonovic or PJ Washington?
