Gordon Hayward is worth X

I say he's worth 3 second round picks from the destination of his choice.

My comp is Steve Adams.

Difference between he and Adams is it's a lot harder for a team to match his salary without giving up something they don't want to givebup

Teams like the Sixers have a mountain of useless expiring contracts. Knicks have Fournier as baseline.

you can't tell me OKC would miss the 27th pick if Hayward replaced Bertans and some nobodies, and helped them win a playoff series even in a 20-25mpg role off the bench.

I have X < 0 personally. Sure its easy to cite Philly if they can't do anything else, but other than them its pretty much impossible to find a team with enough meh expirings to match and to give up value.

He's not really an upgrade on Paul/Klay. OKC has no real need for him, but with their asset pool they should be aiming higher.

My expectation is he ends the season as a Hornet.

Wholeheartedly agree. I suspect Gordon makes a miraculous appearance next week to prove health before the deadline.

I'd love to select Nik Topic as his replacement. Talk about an infinite upgrade. And I'm talking Utah Jazz Gordon.

nope, he's usually terrible that first week after coming back from injury while he's still trying to get his legs back, so that would achieve the opposite effect lol

Nothing stopping the Hornets from running him in private practice or even letting advance scouts in to watch shootaround. Who's going to write an expose for that, Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer?

Notice Cody Martin fell off the face of the Earth and now he's starting games as lead guard.

I think that depends on how much salary you're willing to eat and how many years? Maybe something like Hayward to Utah for John Collins and 2 #2's or a late #1.

I thought he might be a buy out candidate but then I saw that he doesn't care about getting bought out.

Probably just a second or two. He can be an upgrade in someone's rotation if they can aggregate enough money, but that's going to be hard and his availability is so unreliable.

Okc could easily find a better deal for that pick.

Are the Kings looking to clear salary?
Huerter and Barnes for Hayward?
Hornets add depth that can shoot. They might value locked in players vs trying for free agents. I've always like Hueter next to Ball and Barnes is a great role model I here.
Kings clear salary while not losing much depth.

Nobody is giving up assets to get Hayward on that salary.

He could be a useful bench player on a playoff team, however. CHA should look to take on a bad contract(s) plus an asset from a team who wants to save money and wouldn’t mind a useful guy off the bench. The Hornets aren’t going to sign anyone useful with their cap space this summer.

Yes, he and his wife like raising their children in Charlotte.

If he was moderately healthy this season maybe you pull a late 1st. But he’s not playing right now and he makes a ton.

He's overpaid, but he's pretty good and the deal is expiring so overall probably neutral. Biggest issue is finding salary to match.

Oh really, who?

Daniel Gafford, Jordan Clarkson, Alex Caruso, DeMar DeRozan, Tyus Jones, etc. Should all be available in a deal where a late first is much or all of the value needed.

This got me thinking. If Chicago does Chicago things and deals DD, but keeps LaVine, Vuc, Caruso and goes for the play-in, having Hayward go to Chicago and the expiring flotsam can go to Charlotte along with a 2nd from Chicago.

So say Philly gives a protected 1st for DD, Chicago takes the 1st and Hayward, Charlotte gets the Philly salary and a 2nd. Charlotte gets the value they can, Chicago gets a more win now player than Morris, et all.

Smart.
