Different kind of Bruce Brown trade NY/MEM

Post#1 » by Texas Chuck » Sat Feb 3, 2024 2:10 pm

Raps trade: Brown/24 DET 2nd
Raps get: Grimes/Kennard/26 LAC 2nd/30 MEM 2nd

Knicks trade: Fournier/Grimes
Knicks get: Brown

Grizzlies trade: Kennard.26 LAC 2nd/30 MEM 2nd
Grizzlies get: Fournier/24 DET 2nd

Grizzlies get the 1st pick in the 2nd round to add in their usual find especially important to be adding in a cheap contributor with Bane extension kicking in. I think Kennard is gone anyway, but don't need psman2 yelling at me again so won't harp on that. :D This is just like the Adams deal--getting good value for a player.

Knicks get a playoff upgrade for a guy they have been shopping.

Raptors get two SG's for next year making very little money and since their fans think they have too many 24 picks, they move the worst one while picking up 2 future 2nds. Instead of trying to get a couple 2nds (I know some of their fans think 1st) for Brown, they fill in a big need using him instead.

Cut the Grizzlies out and the picks. The Grizzlies are just stealing value here and we're cutting Fournier or Kennard anyway.

Fournier and Grimes is good enough

I have Kennard's shooting at that number a nice add for Toronto who won't be paying Trent again but need shooting. But yeah if you don't like him its simpler without. And simpler is typically better, so appreciate the feedback.

How much better is Brown than Grimes? Grimes is just as good of a defender as Brown, hits his 3 a a higher clip & would cost
about $19 M less next year. I think this is a trade that does nothing for the Knicks.

yeah I guess. I mean Brown is very playoff proven and the Knicks play 8 points better per 100 when Grimes is off the court. I definitely have him as a really clear upgrade. But I also understand Knicks fans are super high on Grimes despite his impact stats saying the opposite.

Just trying to do what objectively makes sense. I understand the anchoring effect of having a guy on one's team already, but since I'm not a fan, I'm just trying to make a team that looks really good, even better for a playoff run without taking away any of their picks for a bigger move this summer.

I would also cut Grizzlies out. I think we are better off taking a shot at a rookie and trying to sign Kennard or another shooter in FA (i think Griz will decline the option). I dont think we are in position to pay draft assets for a 1 yr contract

I mean if you put Grimes out there with Brunson, Randle & OG I'm sure those 8 points would fall like a rock.

I don’t think the Raps do this.

Despite the Knicks fans usual pumping of their players, Grimes hasn’t shown anything of substance. He is a backup SG.

And the Raps also give away the 31st pick in this draft for more distant 2nd round picks?

Kennard doesn’t really fit. Turns 28, doesn’t defend, expires next year.

I’d rather keep Brown and the 31st pick. You can probably fetch better on draft day, having the 1st pick on Day 2.

Yes, please, cut Grizzlies out of this (Memphis fans).

Locking per OP request. Every fanbase hates it so this is a bad idea. And I don't want the pending pissing war about who hypes their players most. Every fanbase here overvalues their own guys. This isn't something to call another group out over guys.
