Claxton to MEM (outbid this offer)

Claxton
for
one of Roddy/ZW/LaRavia
1st 2024 (via BOS for Tillman&Konchar)
Memphis would then resign Claxton at 25m/y which is the amount of the salaries of Adams and Clarke, would then need to be traded.
Brooklyn would get a good, though not perfect, return for its UFA.

Would Aldama or 1st 2025 (or both) fill the gap?

So this would include Tillman or Konchar for the Bostons 2024 first?
I think the Nets could do better and if you could get Claxton for that pick Boston might be pretty interested.

I think Memphis' own 2024 1st should replace the Boston pick, and Brooklyn should send additional value back. My thought is including a Kennard for DFS swap as part of that - he'd be such a nice fit on Memphis (and any team).

Just no way we give up a for sure lottery pick for a UFA. Adding DFS to bridge the gap in value just doesn't make sense since his value this season is wasted. I think Claxton to Memphis would have to be a SNT next offseason. Kennard/filler and future top 10/8/6 protected 1st is something we could see happen if the Nets decide to move on. Would have to stay under the apron though so could get tricky.
OP is not enough for the Nets to move on. I think another team would offer more.

I thought he was an RFA, yah, you are right. I still don't love the value in the OP for Brooklyn, but it's not terrible and I think it can be bridged if they are looking to move on from Claxton.

Another team would offer more. This is tricky for the Grizz. BOS 1st isn't enough but the Grizz pick is too much for a UFA.

Memphis could always just trade for him now using the 2025 first.. lot easier than trying to do a sign and trade considering they will likely be a tax team with him. But the risk that he walks and Memphis paid a first for a 3 month rental in a lost season.
OP gets beat by a lot of teams.

This isn’t close for Claxton.

Then as a follow up to this should the Nets trade Whitehead for Morant? Would that even this out?

You can’t be serious SMH, The Nets could actually shopping Claxton giving his pending free agency.

What kind of value does he have? I agree it’s better than the OP but he is a UFA.

We have a policy against unreasonable counter offers. It adds nothing to the conversation. Find something more constructive to say. Thanks.

Sorry I thought this was a joke. I honestly did not realize this was a real trade thought that was serious serious.
In all honesty this would not be a fair offer for Brooklyn. My apologies!

I would say a top 10 pick in this years draft since it’s exceptionally poor.
But it’s hard to see a team meeting that price because of his UFA status.
I don’t see him being moved unless Brooklyn blows it up completely.

This is what I expected when I clicked on the thread.
Him, DFS and JJJ would wreak havoc on the defensive end.

If Claxtonn were an RFA I'd say it is worth it, but I don't think Memphis should take that risk. I'm not sure the best way to balance a deal, but that pick is off the table IMO.

I agree.
I don’t think there’s a trade out there that would satisfy the Nets unless Claxton committed to resigning with the team that trades for him.
However, that would imply Brooklyn is actively shopping him, which doesn’t seem to be the reality.
He’s most likely staying in Brooklyn and the Stein report was just “noise”.

It’s low, but the OP suggested paying Claxton $25m…if it’s known that he’s realistically expecting that, his trade price drops considerably. That’s too much salary for even an elite defensive specialist, imo.
Of all teams, I would’ve thought MEM with JJJ is among the worst fits for Claxton.I would think a much better complement would be a bigger, more physical rebounder/ versatile big (like Adams). Wendell Carter from ORL seems like his best spot would be next to a slimmer shot-blocker like JJJ, Chet, Claxton, Wemby, Gafford. Carter can get the rebounds they miss while chasing blocks. He can also body up the bigger C’s out there well enough to slow them a bit but still move well enough to switch pretty well against mortals.
