Cha/Det: Bouknight for Hayes

Post#1 » by HartfordWhalers » Sun Feb 4, 2024 4:48 pm

Why?
Seriously, why?

Both move off the guys they will move off of. Charlotte gets to see if Hayes might be worth having as a development pg going forward. Detroit gets to see if Bouknight can do anything going forward.
It is the chance to trial a new failed prospect and if not move on from a draft mistake without it looking like just that.

Sure. Hayes would be such a mess in a Clifford system but hopefully we're over and done with him soon

Bouk has no purpose on a basketball court

If we're going to trade Killian just to trade him (which I actually support at this point), I'd rather do it for another expiring contract.

Bouk expires after the season. we didn't pick up his 4th year option because he's absolute garbage

No thank you. We don't need any more bad players. Just buy out Killian Hayes and stop playing GLeague talent. It's hurting the development of players that matter like Cade/Ausar/Ivey/Duren

Didn’t Bouk have some legal issues? Have they been resolved?

No point in this. We can just cut Hayes if it comes to that.

In which case cutting Bouk would save you money.

Bouk is cheaper so make the swap, cut Bouknight before he shows up and there is monetary profit. Might as well take it.

I feel like we'd be doing Charlotte dirty. I know how much Killian sucks, and being around players he’s unfamiliar with would just make it worse.

But sure, if they ask nicely and promise not to be mad about the coal in their stocking, fine.

Which is why you trade for the cheaper player and cut him.

Really just getting Hayes off Detroit’s roster is the main point of this move.

For Charlotte-Let them see if they can get anything out of Hayes.

For Detroit- purposely lose Hayes bird rights and make sure Monty can’t put him on the floor anymore

It's a choice between doing the owner a solid saving a few bucks or doing the player/agent a solid letting them chose where he want to play (if anyone decides to give him a chance)

Considering the owner is paying almost 45 million for dead cap space (Dedmon/Joe Harris/Wiseman/Hayes), I am not sure if he cares.

I mean it’s not like the offer is exactly awesome or anything, I just think it makes sense to cut a cheaper player.

I mean in a more ideal situation you take on some other teams failed (or failing) project. But if I’m just cutting Hayes, I’d rather cut someone else who costs less

Monty Williams is (Please Use More Appropriate Word), he might decide to give the new scrub minutes instead of playing Sasser.

Unless the Spurs want to take a look at Killian, and offer Cedi, I don’t think we likely get a player back worth keeping.

I mean I was considering posting Hayes to Charlotte for JT Thor and Frank Ntilikina. Charlotte takes a chance on Hayes, we open up more cap space to take on teams junk, and small assets, trying to avoid the luxury tax

Oh no, we're not getting anyone playable for Killian, that's for sure. I want to just buy him out.

I kind of like the Cedi idea. Burks won't be back and Cedi is a passable backup who is a good locker room guy.

I like Hayes. I know he has been sucking, but I'd take a chance.

I know for a fact Bouknight is worse, so no take backs.

There is one value that Hayes MIGHT have and that would be filler on another trade. So an alternative would be to see if that happens, otherwise cut him on Feb 9
