OKC boosts for playoff with WAS

OKC is doing well. Thought here was to add depth for a playoff run.
WAS gets to dump the guys they are shopping.
WAS - gets OKC salary (probably Bertans, Micic, KWill, Poku) and 3 heavily protected firsts [2024 first which is 2nd worst of OKC/UTA/HOU/LAC and top 14 protected, becomes two 2nds; 2025 first which is worst of UTA/OKC/HOU/LAC/MIA/PHI and top 12 protected becomes 2 future seconds; 2026 first which is worst of PHI/UTA/HOU/LAC/MIA/OKC top 12 protected becomes 2 seconds]
- sends Kuzma, Gafford
logic - gets picks even if heavily protected.
OKC - gets Kuzma, Gafford
- sends pick and salary dump (Bertans, Micic, KWill, Poku - or could be whoever's salary matches)
logic - Dump unused guys for players that can contribute.
[could add in another portion where Gafford goes to HOU and OKC gets Tate+Landale+2nd if they preferred]

Could add in Kispert also if OKC wanted him.

Gafford for Bertans/small incentive makes a ton of sense. Adding in Kuzma less so.

Too much pieces . OKC probably just looking at one of Gafford or Kispert from Washington. Most likely Gafford.

Small incentive (by which I'm thinking 2nds) isn't going to do it for Gafford. It would take a 1st and one that would convey as he is a competent NBA center. It would also take a decent 1st to get Kuzma or Kispert. They are all available for the right price but it has to be real 1sts.
Otherwise, the Wiz probably hold him (all 3 of them) to see if someone wants to offer more next year as the contracts are all reasonable. OKC can afford this and dump any and all of it's worst players on Washington (I understand OKC fans like Micic a lot) to match salary but it's about getting decent 1sts, not ones that have a good chance of turning into 2nds as Washington has quite a few extra seconds in the next few drafts.
Delon Wright, Marvin Bagley, Johnny Davis are all available for less if you want to get rid of 1sts that might not convey.

What small incentive? Gafford isn't some throwaway player. He's definitely not available for a couple of SRPs, I'm pretty sure of that.

Poku, Tre Mann, 2nd worst 2024 1st (currently 27), 2024 HOU 2nd, 2025 PHI 2nd for Gafford
Or Bertans, 2nd worst 2024 1st (currently 27), 2025 PHI 1st (top 20 prot) for Gafford

Poku, Mann, the two late 1sts is worth talking about. Poku/Mann rather than Bertans because otherwise we have no warm body bigger than Kuzma other than Marvin Bagley.

Wizards have no reason to trade Gafford for anything less than a first. That being said I'd love to see him in OKC.

As soon I see “the worst of” in any offer, I’d immediately say no. Usually those picks (and the offer in general) end up sucking.

If I’m paying 2 first I’m moving Bertans.
Poku Bertans two late first for Gafford ?
Might need include Delon wright for salary matching.
If someone value Delon for a second , they can be looped into send the second to Washington and similar salary to OKC

Not fond of "top 20 protected" either but at least we are having a conversation with 1sts involved and can negotiate. Single better first, alternative if the Philly pick doesn't convey, etc. No problem with Bertans for Delon being in the negotiation rather than Mann either.

I mean a heavily protected first is a small incentive from OKC. Relax guys. I didn't say give them Gafford for free. But I also don't think he returns a premium asset. There is lots of room there to work with, I assure you.

There has to be a legit reason for WAS to unload young guys on reasonable deals (Gafford, Kispert)…just because they’re in tank mode doesn’t mean they’re in “everything must go” mode. Kuzma, Poole, Tyus…absolutely. Maybe the younger guys get added in to an overpay for a bigger money guy but no reason to unload decent prospects for srps and bad salaries.
