DET/NYK/MIN - does it make too much sense?
Pistons Trade: Burks, Morris
Receive: Fournier, DET protected 1st back via NYK
Why? Pistons need that protected first back to have the ability to move potential future firsts down the line. In order to do so they need to take on Fournier - who could be resurrected as a shooter off the bench for them.
Knicks Trade: Fournier, future protected DET 1st
Receive: Kyle Anderson, Alec Burks
Why? Knicks are hobbled and need bodies. Kyle can play 3/4 and is a Thibs type player. Burks is a familiar face who can be a major playoff contributor.
Wolves Trade: Kyle Anderson
Receive: Monte Morris
Why? Fulfill their need for a backup PG

Detroit owes value. Morris and Burks are not worth a 1st

Fournier is expiring...they is no taking on his contract here. Det would have to bridge the value gap here.

I'd be fairly surprised if the Wolves would be willing to do Anderson for Morris. I'd bet that the best offer for Morris from Minnesota is Milton+Brown+2nd(s).

I think it's fair, but Im also discounting the 1st a bit due to the lotto protections and likelihood that it would ever convey

Value gap? Uh, Burks+Morris is borderline an overpay for the first back.
Those are not scrub players, whatsoever, and besides, keep the first. Top 5 pick incoming, don't need it.

It inhibits Detroit from moving future firsts. The 1st really only has value to the Pistons

Agreed. I don't see the Wolves trading Kyle for Morris.
Also don't see them wanting to move more than 1 2nd round pick if they even do that for him.

I'm hoping the team hits double digit wins this year.
Play-in?

I think the Wolves also want Burks. If they were gonna move Kyle it would be with Shake and Troy to bring both players to MN. Then they would move WMJ into space and sign one buyout and one G league player with less than one year experience.

I don't think it's an overpay at all. Burks and Morris probably leave for better teams in the offseason anyways. Sasser should be eating up a lot of Burks' and Morris' minutes as the season goes on. Pistons getting trade flexibility back (not that I think they should be trading future 1sts) increases the value of the pick for them a tiny bit, even if it might not convey to NY as a 1st in the end.

As other Wolves fans have mentioned, I don’t see Kyle in this trade but there could be other ways for MN to be involved.

So you guys are not really interested in Morris. Because we paid a lot more than that to acquire Morris in the offseason.

Tyus is definitely the FOs priority. Besides that, Morris has been out most of the year, and uninspired since his return. I get that his conditioning needs work, but with his fresh legs you would hope for a bit better shooting. Your point is well taken, but resale value is not a given.

Re: DET/NYK/MIN - does it make too much sense?
If they want anyone, it's gonna be 35yo Bojan. The other two are younger. NY can rot with that pick as far as I'm concerned. I don't want Weaver to have it.BDM22 wrote:zeebneeb wrote:Value gap? Uh, Burks+Morris is borderline an overpay for the first back.

The Pistons acquired Morris for one 2nd round pick and offseason cap space. At this point in the season, expiring contracts and a 2nd round pick is pretty much the equivalent of what Detroit paid to acquire him.

After you said that I remembered reading this. Dug it back up.

I don’t know what Vege was talking about.

ROFL. Raw cap space is always way more valuable than expirings no matter what. WTF are you talking about, unless we're talking about desirable players on expiring deals which none of Minnesota guys are.

Unless you have a time machine, offseason cap space has no value at the trade deadline. For the upcoming trade deadline, Morris is a player on an expiring contract who has missed 43 games and has awful production in his limited minutes since returning. Expecting more than expiring matching salary and a 2nd or two seems unrealistic.
