The Grizzlies trade L. Kennard

TO

Magic for G. Harris and G. Bitadze

Grizzlies get back Harris whose game is effective on both sides of the floor from three point range, post slashes, and solid defense from the bench. Bitadze offers defense, rebounding, blocks and stretch 5 offense. Plus both players have expiring contracts sothe Grizzlies do not lose any salary flexibility.

The Magic get Kennard who can be effective from the perimeter as well as driving to the post to score. He also brings some decent playmaking packages as he been known to play PG in emergency situations.

This is a move I could get behind. Goga is one of my favorite offseason targets and it would be nice to have his early bird rights on him. I think we could make it a three way with NY. Harris and Tillman with some draft considerations coming back to Memphis and Orlando with Fournier landing in Memphis. Fournier has a team option that goes past the draft, leaving that salary alive for Memphis if we want to use it in a bigger move. Opens a roster spot which we have to have to do the OP. NY saves money and gets some deep rotations guys for the playoffs.

This feels like an overpay from Orlando's end

posted this exact same offer on our Orlando board yesterday holy sheit that's crazy. Think it's one of the easiest, cleanest and solid trades.

"Here's a SUPER EASY deal that would help Orlando now and next year. Requires 0 assets and is a no brainer.

Orlando trades Gary Harris and Goga
Memphis trades- Luke Kennard

Why- Orlando knows Goga is likely going to get a better deal in FA then what they might be willing to offer him so they get a Guard who fits better now and for the next year.

Why for Memphis- Steven Adams has been moved and Memphis now is starting Santi Aldama at Center yikes. They get a look at solid backup C while shuffling some cap space to a position of need for a playoff run in 2024."

Goga has been getting DNP's for weeks (Moe Wagner and Isaac getting backup C minutes) and Gary has just come back and is showing some playability but doesn't fit time frame/pending FA.

Magic get a player who fits on a 1 year deal for 2 expirings, 1 who might get an overpay in FA for a C needy team. This is the exact type of deal a team like Orlando should take.

Only thing I would add if seeing we could do a two for two with either adding either Konchar/Roddy/or Laravia.

I wish the Magic's front office valued Goga more than they do. He's a VERY good drop coverage big defensively and also a very good offensive rebounder.

He isn't all that versatile defensively, and will struggle pretty badly if he's asked to defend in space or against switches. But he's legitimately excellent as a drop defender.

I would love to keep him, but I suspect he probably wants to move on and actually play minutes for somebody.

the value is good for both. to me, it depends on whether Orlando is considering moving WCJ in some trade (either deadline or summer). if they are, then they want to keep Goga. but Goga isnt a deal breaker, he isnt that good

In a vacuum its interesting...but ORL really should be thinking bigger, given all of their progress, all of their expiring salaries, and all of the picks they control.

This is like just getting french fries when you're starving and have a pocketful of cash.

I'd do this as long as it was trade #2 and trade #1 was a bit bigger push, think Brogdon/Tyus possibly.

It appears we bumped heads on the same concept. It's the most sensible trade between the two squads. Both teams are trading away and getting back good value in return. Neither team loses here and has the potential to gain here.
