Golden State saves $106 Million (GWS/OKC/WAS)

Post#1 » by Domejandro » Tue Feb 6, 2024 7:54 am

This assumes that Chris Paul is comfortable taking a reduced role in favour of trying to win a Championship.

_________________________________________
GSW: Tyus Jones
OUT: Chris Paul and 2030 FRP (Protections changed from 1-20 to 1-10 Protected)

Why for Golden State? Save a staggering $105,998,588.50 in Luxury-Tax (+salary) costs. Swap Chris Paul for a comparably stable facilitator who is younger and more efficient at scoring. Slight talent downgrade, but HUGE financial savings at the cost of changing the 2030 First Round Draft Pick protections from 1-20 to 1-10.
_________________________________________

OKC: Chris Paul and Anthony Gil
OUT: Dāvis Bertāns, Vasilije Micić, 2024 LAC FRP, and a couple seconds

Why for Oklahoma City? Bring a familiar and well-loved veteran back to Oklahoma City. Clear the bad salaries of Dāvis Bertāns and Vasilije Micić ($13MM in 2024, $8MM in 2025)
_________________________________________

WAS: Dāvis Bertāns, Vasilije Micić, 2024 LAC FRP, 2030 GWP FRP, and a couple seconds
OUT: Tyus Jones and Anthony Gil

Why for Washington? Get a late first, reduced protections on a future first, and seconds for Tyus Jones (and taking on a small amount of bad salary).

Not really what OKC is looking for and definitely wouldn’t give up picks here

Don’t think OKC will trade for cp3 with a first .

Don't think OKC first is needed here.

I don't see OKC needing to add a first. And its kinda a waste of an Asset for GS. Yeah there saving money but CP3 is an expiring deal. GS could just hang to him and save that money in the offseason. And save a 1st round pick in the process.

If just was just trying to save money, it’s a good deal, but all reports are there’s no demand from ownership in that regard and any move will be about improving the team now.

CP3 is an expiring this year or can be one next year. Should be able to do better for the asset imo

This might be worse, but I think GS would/should pay a first to have a Looney (to OKC) for Gafford or Kuzma deal tied in, with OKC sending Poku to Washington

Would save a lot less money, but would address a need and I can’t see OKC paying much to get off the salary they’re getting off here. It’s pretty minor considering none of their core gets paid through the impacted years. But with Looney, you’re at least adding something they really need.

This seems like a no brainer for GS. Tyus can do a fine job replacing CP3 for the rest of the season and then we can decide whether to re-sign him or let him walk.

I know it’s bad form to negotiate against yourself, but Looney has really not looked good this year. Hard to see OKC wanting him, even if he only costs a flier prospect like Poku

Hmm. How bad has Looney looked? Like a straight swap of Curry and Looney bad? Dallas throw in a second?

Dallas can deal with trimming 100K in a later deal..

Bad enough to be readily available in a trade, but the Dubs are way too short handed (no pun intended) size wise to deal him for a small guy

Well thought out trade. Not sure OKC does it and without the pick from OKC, the Wizards wouldn't do it, so that's where the hangup would be.

We’re way too thin in the frontcourt (and stacked on guards) for this right now, but if we turned CP3 into a big through some other deal we might consider it.

Right now we have Steph, CP3, and Podz all playing significant roles (when healthy) plus CoJo as a 3rd stringer and a GLeaguer in Quinones who looks promising. All 6-4 and under.

So GSW gets a better, more reliable player, with bird rights, while saving $100M... and all they have to do is slightly reduce protections in a pick in 2030?!?
This is awful.

Why are OKC losing Vasa? I don't think Paul gets many minutes as a backup big or big wing. When would he play? Swap Paul for Kamiga and Lunny.
