SAS/DET (small and cheap)

SAS trades (DET receives): Cedi Osman (expiring) + LAL '24 2nd (projected in the low 40s)
DET trades (SAS receives): Monte Morris (expiring)
Why for SAS: could use a vet PG more than a wing, takes back only slightly more money but no more years, Could sign Monte in the offseason for nothing, but pays a small amount to check him out more closely, and keeps Bird rights from possible suitors.
Why for DET: has a logjam at PG and could use a wing that is shooting 47.7% from the field and 37% from 3 on 3.2 attempts, takes back an expiring with slightly less money, picks up another 2nd rounder that should be in the low 40s.

Anything that gets Killian Hayes more minutes is a no thank you.

Doesn't get Killian Hayes more minutes, he's out anyway. Detroit has Cade, Ivey, Sasser... they don't need Monte and he's likely gone anyways this offseason.

Debatable. Before Morris returned from his half-season injury, Hayes was getting a ton of minutes. Now if you think he’s finally played himself out of the rotation, maybe, but I don’t trust Monty Williams not to play him.
Sasser needs those minutes. If we cut Hayes at the same time, it’s a maybe.

Minnesota could offer a better 2nd (MEM 2024 2nd) and expiring contracts in Milton/Brown. In terms of the players the Pistons would be getting, I'd rate Brown as being comparable to Osman as a shooter while being a bit better on defense.

I think the pistons are looking to resign morris. We can't play all young guards if we want to turn this around next year. And he's a local guy who seems to want to be here.

Detroit is trying to develop their young players. They need estabilished veterans that can shoot around them. Morris is important to us, we're not trading him for unwanted expirings and 2nds.
Same thing goes for Burks and Bojan.
You need a player that makes sense going to Detroit and Cedi Osman is unplayable bad.

Well, last I checked he wasn't unplayable for a team that is better than Detroit and he's shooting better than anyone other than Bogdanovic, Sasser, and Burks. Also, I think Monte Morris may be on the way out unless Detroit overpays. If you think he'll stay, sure, keep him. I think he probably leaves.

Yeah, I think Detroit would get a better second (or just more 2nds) or a better player.
Whichever they wanted.

Despite being able to shoot around league average, he is an inept offensive player and one of the worst defenders in the league. He is unplayable bad, he is a scrub, Detroit have too many scrubs alread, we'll keep the veteran point guard but thank you for offering that pile of crap for him.

Dude, the Pistons got Monte Morris for ONE second rounder when he was healthier and playing well, and his contract wasn't 4 months from expiring. Even if you think Osman is trash (I think he's probably still better than most wings you have) and consider him filler, it's still in line with past valuations. You're free not to like the proposal, but your posturing doesn't seem in touch with reality.

I agree that if they can retain Morris and sign in the summer, Detroit is better off keeping him
However, this trade is far, far better than losing Morris for nothing, and reasonable value

That's false. The 2nd wasn't anywhere near the most valuable asset we trade for him and context does matter.
And no. We are garbage, but Osman would be a 3rd stringer in Detroit or any other team in the league fwiw.

I guess you were trading him for unwanted expirings and a 2nd

You pretty much nailed it, but the pick is a 2030 2nd rounder so it isn't better. I wish the Spurs had made an offer for him. Love the deal for you guys.

There is a reason why we are the worst team in NBA history. We have an imbecile of an owner and the worst GM in any sports history.

I wouldn't do this for SAS. I don't see any percentage in it for them. Morris is a backup guard at best. If SAS goes shopping for a PG in the offseason, it will be for someone starter worthy.

You were bang on with the players but the second rounder we got is much more distant and an unknown commodity at this stage.
