Milwaukee - Toronto - Dallas (Brown to Bucks, Portis to Mavs, youth to Raps)

Proposed Trade:

Milwaukee in: Bruce Brown
Milwaukee out: Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton, ‘24 POR 2nd

Dallas in: Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton
Dallas out: Josh Green, Richard Holmes, OMax

Toronto in: Josh Green, Richard Holmes, OMax, ‘24 POR 2nd
Toronto out: Bruce Brown

Rationale:

Milwaukee wants Brown. They’re willing to trade Portis, Connaughton and the ‘24 Portland 2nd (~35th pick).

Dallas wants a “tall PF”, per Wiretap. Portis is a championship vet 6’10 PF/C. Connaughton plugs in easily as well.

Toronto wants youth. This trade gets them future oriented assets, and completes their haul from the Siakam trade.

No interest in adding incentive to swap green for Portis. Holmes and Prosper for him and the Raps eat Pat, maybe. But not swapping Green for Pat on top of that.

Counter point:

Green plays 26-27 mins for the Mavs, and they have a big hole in the front court. In this case, they fill that hole with a starter in Portis, plus 20 mins of Connaughton.

Mavs obviously owe some value here.

I think it would take holmes/prosper/2025 TOR 2nd at least, otherwise the Knicks offer is better

I'm not saying I have the best offer. I'm saying the most I'd pay for Portis is Holmes/Prosper. I can accept that's not enough.

So when the OP tries to sell me a Green/Pat C swap on that, its just not close to something I'd consider. And sure Dallas could play Pat C 20 minutes. Or they could keep Green and play Grant Williams 20 minutes. Feels like a much better plan.

Dallas seems to be in the OP to give value on behalf of the Bucks to satisfy the Raps wanting a lot of value for Brown. We'll bow out and let the Raptors find another team willing to take on Pat C, and give you a 23 year athletic wing who makes 3's and a recent 1st round pick all to have Bobby Portis. I don't think that team exists, but if you guys can find it, cool cool cool.

Toronto absolutely fleeces Dallas and Milwaukee. If Dallas is willing to do that trade for some reason, Bucks would just cut out the Raptors and get Green for themselves, who is younger and better than Brown… while keeping the Portland 2nd.

What about Portis+Pat+Portland 2nd for Green+Holmes?

Yeah this is an interesting spin.

Send the Portland 2nd to Dallas.

Dallas isnt paying Toronto for Mil to get Brown. And I'm the Mavs fan that hates Josh Green, thats how bad this is.

Fwiw Bruce Brown on MLE was a tremendous deal, on a multiyear $20m/y+ base not so much. Bucks should pass, never give up that much for non-needle moving roleplayer.

I'd rather keep Green and trade Williams. Greens played really well recently. Now If somehow Mavs can get a backup big in this trade ID think about shipping out green but just portis and Pat C and a 2nd for Green and Holmes Id rather keep the team the same and see what happens.

This is a very true statement.
