BKN - OKC

Trade based upon rumours doing the rounds

BKN trades DFS & Royce to OKC for Giddey, Bertans and a 24 1st

Why for BKN

They get much needed playmaking (Din looks to be gone & Simmons is hardly Mr Reliable) and height plus a pick in this year’s draft when they currently have none

Why for OKC

Receive 2 3 & D rotation players at the cost of a 4th option on offence (who is also playing out of position and needs to be extended), a non rotation player and one of the 3 1sts they have in this year’s draft

Only question is which pick

Probably costs 2 or more.

Assuming Giddey equals O’Neale, Bertans is filler, if you meet their price then you are looking at 2 going out. I don’t know how heavily protected but my guess is top 6 or 8.

Edit to add: Found on hoopshype dated February 1st. “ A source told The Post the Nets rejected an offer of two first-rounders for Finney-Smith, reportedly coveted by not just the Lakers but also by the Mavericks, Bucks, Thunder, Suns and Kings. O’Neale could fetch a first-round pick, and has also been linked to the Mavericks, Nuggets, Pacers, Bucks, Timberwolves, Suns and Kings.

I am a Nets fan but trying to be fair

Giddey was a #6 pick

He’s been going through things on & off the court but is worth more to the Nets than OKC as we need a pg & they don’t

If we could get 1 pick (the Houston 1st owed to OKC), I would take it & run

Keep in mind that Marks turned the 27th pick into Thomas and the 29th pick into Sharpe who has been every bit as good as Claxton this year

No way Giddey equals O’Neal..
I’m not a fan of Giddey and I would try to trade him today, but he has for sure more value than O’Neal

That’s the point

DFS is far more valuable than Bertans

Giddey is more valuable than DFS + ONeale. A Giddey+ trade would only be part of a Bridges deal.

DFS + Oneale is some combo of Bertans, Mann, Poku, Dieng + pick(s).

Giddey is playing 25 minutes per game this season and it’s decreasing

He’s a bit player

Or he’s extremely young and hasn’t being put in position to succeed. He’s definitely had a down year, but the signs are still there.

Back to your proposal - if you require Giddey for DFS, it’s a pass for OKC.

He's 21 years old. That's young but extremely young? You make it sound like he's a minor.

Giddey is still more valuable than DFS and Royce. And no reason to include him.

Royce is worth the Houston 2nd, currently around 40.

DFS is worth pick 27 and a protected future pick.

I think those are both more than fair.

Giddey is way more valuable than DFS and Royce combined, easily I'd say

no way OKC sends him instead of 2 first and a second for them, even with Giddey having a down year

even if Presti was in a rush to sell low (which he cleary isn't), I think at least 3-4 rebuilding teams would offer more than this.

I'm OK with the premise of the deal from a Nets perspective, but it has to be for the right pick. I don't think a '24 pick is the right one, unless it's Utah's and the Nets hope it rolls over.

And there it is, Royce traded for filler and 3 second rounder. The dream of Giddey is done
