2024 Off-Season: The KD Trade Market

Post#1 » by NYG » Sat Feb 17, 2024 7:38 pm

Let's say Phoenix gets bounced Round 2 or earlier and KD asks out again...

1. Which teams would he accept a trade to?
2. What is his value?

thinking it has to be a contender... Would I say KNICKS KD+Nurkic for Randle+Robinson+Hart+2FRP?.. Knicks then send Nurkic+FRP for Poelt?.. The Suns are getting younger and lengthening their contention time... The KINGS or the Warriors would be other suitors I guess

If Durant asks out, the Suns need to make sure Booker doesn’t walk too. If he does, then it’s a tear down and the Suns will want young players and picks. If he stays, he’s going to want to compete. Booker might ask to get his buddy Karl-Anthony Towns, who’s playing the best ball of his career. Not sure if either front office likes it.

For the record, I think it’s unlikely KD (or Booker) ask for a trade. But it’s an interesting topic for our board, in the doldrums after the trade deadline!

NYK is my best guess as well. It's big market and the Randle deal Mike Lorenzo mentioned is pretty clean framework.

MIA would also be a place I could see KD wanting to play

Some other places that for basketball reasons could make sense

CLE (Garland or Mobley centered deal)
ATL (Murray? Young ?)
HOU (Jabari/Eason/FVV?)

If KD is demanding a trade, PHX needs to maximize picks because they gave up a lot to get this squad together. I would assume they want to see how the Beal addition looks this POs and give it another year, but who knows how these guys think, anything could happen.

Ugh... I didn't even think of NY and I don't know if I love it, but yeah you have to do it in real life.

Does he really want to be on a fifth team ?

I like this as an academic discussion but there is no way Ishbia is letting KD leave this offseason. If anything they’ll be buyers (albeit on a limited budget).

Maybe a S&T for PG? George replaces a lot of what KD does and is a bit younger, KD gets to ring chase with Harden and Kawhi.

Or maybe back to OkC as the missing piece and bringing his arc full circle. The salaries are difficult but would OkC surrender the good J. Williams to bring KD back?

That's a terrible offer for KD and a dream scenario for the Knicks.

It's extremely hard for the Suns to be buyers as they have literally nothing

-They have zero draft picks to trade, zero swaps to trade, have already swapped their swaps, and their only future pick they haven't traded is frozen by the new CBA

-They have no young players on the roster

-They have six players on the roster: Three of them are Jusuf Nurkic, Nassir Little, and David Roddy

-Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale are free agents and have them over a barrel as they cannot be replaced

I'm pretty sure the new CBA rules make it basically impossible for the Suns or Clips to do a S&T.

I’d be very wary about giving up anything I saw as part of my “core” in this scenario given that this would be KD’s second trade demand in 18 months. I’m not selling the farm for a guy who’s most likely gone in a year or two.

KAT for Durant is easily the most interesting move on paper, but the new CBA rules make this ridiculously hard to do.

The OKC fit is perfect. But that reconciliation isn’t likely to happen while KD is still playing.

What would you have as the KD to NY deal?

I mean, KD going to another team that's going have to gut their roster to acquire him. Seems like he's best off hoping that the trio can figure things out.

So what would be your KD deal if he asked out?

To Suns: Towns + Dort

To Thunder: KD

To Wolves: Wallace + Giddey + Picks

Bones of the trade.

KD to Wolves doesn't work for a lot of reasons - mainly money problems still.

Suns are locked in here.

They have other options in offseason.

The Beal trade hurt them the most, that was bad IMO

They have literally nothing they could trade in the offseason other than Nassir Little, David Roddy, Jusuf Nurkic, and two second round picks.

They also can only offer the minimum to new FAs in the offseason and Grayson Allen has tons of leverage over them and can probably get $20m to $25m a year.
