Nets send: Ben Simmons, Unprotected 2025 Suns pick, top 9 protected 2027 76ers pick, 2027 unprotected Suns pick, 2028 unprotected Suns swap, 2029 unprotected Suns pick, 2029 unprotected Mavs pick, Dariq Whitehead, Noah Clowney, Cam Thomas
Nets receive: Trae Young
Spurs send: Unprotected 2025 Hawks pick, unprotected 2026 Hawks swap, unprotected 2027 Hawks pick
Spurs receive: Unprotected 2025 Suns pick, top 9 protected 2027 76ers pick, 2028 unprotected Suns swap, 2029 unprotected Suns pick, 2029 unprotected Mavs pick
Hawks send: Trae Young,
Hawks receive: Ben Simmons, return of 2025 to 2027 Hawks picks, Dariq Whitehead, Noah Clowney, Cam Thomas
Why for the Nets: They seem to want to try to compete now but they desperately need an actual star to go with Bridges and Claxton.
Why for the Spurs: Basically getting a premium on picks as the picks they own from the Hawks are more valuable. This is if they don't want to go after Trae Young if they want to tank for another year or two. They would probably only do this if the Hawks made it clear they would never trade Trae without getting their picks back.
Why for the Hawks: They are a really bad team with no future picks and this is one of the only ways out.

Not close at all for Atlanta.

Spurs can't trade the '26 Hawks swap and Nets can't trade the '28 Suns swap, they'd have to trade their own pick, which comes with the rights to swap attached.
So basically you're proposing the Spurs trade three PREMIUM picks: '25 Hawks + best of '26 Hawks / Spurs + '27 Hawks for more picks, but farther out and thus with more uncertainty. Honestly, it doesn't feel worth the risk, those picks are pretty good but the '27 76ers, '25 Suns and '29 Mavs are unlikely to be great, and the other 2 are unlikely to be better than the ones shuffled around here.
If the Spurs want Trae (I hope not), they're sending the picks to get him, and if they don't want him, they are not moving those picks. This feels like it should be a straight up Hawks / Nets deal, with Spurs role being reduced to helping the Nets achieve their goal. Not a sensible premise.

Trae isn't fetching a package like that. The Nets won't offer all of that for Trae, a talented but possibly fatally flawed player.

I don’t see Atlanta wanting their picks SOOOO MUCH that they’re willing to give up 2 extra picks. Like, they’d just do the Brooklyn part straight up and not worry about SA? Like, if Atlanta is willing to deal Trae with 2 more guaranteed years under contract, it’s probably because they think they’re a better team without him?
But also, I don’t think Atlanta would want a “tank like” trade like this. I think they’d want to get back a true building block as one of the return pieces, and they definitely aren’t getting one here.

No from Brooklyn. We've made our bed with Ben financially, we're not to trade him as a negative asset, we would rather see if he can contribute until he expires next summer. And Trae isn't worth this much.

Yeah, I feel like Atlanta would be better off with SA cut out here. SA is getting picks from a team in a much worse long term position than Atlanta… Phoenix is going to have a really tough time pivoting in a couple years. They’re going to be amazing until KD declines, so it’s worth it IMO.. But those 2027-2029 picks from Phoenix have big potential. Same with the Dallas 2029 first, there will have to be a really great retool in a 1-2 years in order for Luka to either resign or not demand by 2029..
So I’m not too sure how SAS gets to end up with two more firsts than they send out? Leverage?
The “Phoenix 2028 swap” is that just a swap or is it the better of the Phoenix/Brooklyn picks? Decent difference there.
But I think at least one of Detroit, San Antonio, or Charlotte would offer a top 4 pick and a couple other firsts/assets for Trae. And Atlanta would easily take that over a volume package / tank package IMO.
Charlotte could offer a top 4 pick, two 2027 other team firsts, a 2026 Charlotte first.. and whatever else needed and build a Trae/Ball/Miller/Bridges/Williams group that can stay under the tax for a couple years and be very young and really good if Ball is healthy..
