Pistons
In:Markkanen/Sexton
Out:FRP24(1/3)/Ivey

Pistons desperate to improve, send their selection and use the space to get 2 players who would fit perfectly, even young...

JAZZ
In:Ivey/Pistons FRP
Out:Markkanen/Sexton

The Jazz begin a complete rebuild, with a high potential prospect and a top 3 pick. They free up a ton of space for FA25 and put themselves in position to go for Flagg/Bailey

Markkanen and Sexton are good, but not great, players. The Pistons are giving up way too much value for them. Tragically, the Pistons are stuck in rebuilding mode. Ivey and the first round pick works much better for them at this point.

This is absolutely terrible for the Jazz unless the Pistons have a top 2 pick and the Jazz are convinced Alex Sarr is a future star. Jaden Ivey has upside, but he's just been really bad so far in his career so it's hard to see him becoming a star. Everyone at the top of the draft is a role player as well.

Would think Cade to Utah is closer than Lauri to Detroit.

Utah has the draft capital / cap flexibility to easily trade for Cade and a star this offseason and renegotiate Lauri.

Detroit would either have to sit on 20-25 million in cap space through near half the season, or risk Lauri playing out his contract. If Detroit is terrible, is Lauri taking the money or just waiting the six months? Is he asking for a trade to a team that wouldn’t be able to sign him? Just open yourself to a lot of risk compared to Utah who can get the deal done before the season starts.

As for the value, I think that’s a pretty fair offer for an expiring Lauri. Sure you can probably go for 4 firsts instead, but id rather take the top 2 pick there most every time..

The ability to renegotiate doesn’t really impact his trade value considering the 6 month delay other teams will have (at least the old CBA?).. If Detroit is willing to take the risk, they can spend 25-35 million on an overpaid free agent and sit on the rest of their cap space to give to Lauri. And maybe having Lauri, helps sign an actual impact player like the team would like to..

This is the main thing. Adding another rookie that would be a bad fit with the alread young high lottery picks we have that don't fit with each other would be a disaster. Adding a young player that fit with Cade and Duren would be a better idea, and would help convincing another decent player to join. Cade/Grimes/Lauri/Tobias/Duren would be a respectable team. Or Naz Reid instead of Tobias if Minny are in financial trouble and want to sell him cheap.

As for the OP, I would not eat Sexton. I would do this trade (without Sexton included) even if we land #1 or #2.

Would Markkanen re-sign with the Pistonst? Hmm.... I have serious doubts, and that's a deal breaker here.
