Jaylen Brown Trade Options?

Post#1 » by kds92 » Fri Feb 23, 2024 11:26 pm

If the Celtics don't make it out of the East, they may look to move Jaylen Brown. He'll cost $49 million next season with annual increases to $65 million in 2028/29, which is the final year of his deal. He can't be traded until July 26.

What's his trade value? A few possible frameworks are below, but the value could be off.

Direct Trade Options

ATL: Dejounte + Okongwu + picks for Brown OR Trae for Brown (Jaylen's from the Atlanta metro area)
CLE: Something around Mitchell for Brown (Cavs need a wing and Celts need more scoring from the guard position)
MEM: Something around Bane for Brown (Reunites with Smart)
POR: Simons + Grant + picks for Brown (gets the chance to lead a team)
MIN: KAT for Brown (highly unlikely unless MIN gets knocked out early and decides it doesn't want to save money)

3-Team Deal Options

GSW: Wiggins, Kuminga, picks to third team (Warriors need a better 2nd option and Jaylen went to Cal for college)
SAC: Keegan and/or several picks to third team (Kings could use a good wing and Jaylen went to Cal for college)
HOU: Jalen Green, filler, picks to third team (Reunites with Udoka)
DAL: Kyrie to third team (Mavs could use a good wing)

Zero interest from POR.

JB is a fine player on a good team. Don’t think he is the best player on a good team.

Raptors have a clean cap situation and need talent, questions are:

1) Would Barrett go to the Celtics as part of the deal to replace him, or to a 3rd team?
2) What else is in the deal?

Houston makes some sense too:

Celtics - Eason, Dillon Brooks, (solid guard or center from team X), Houston 1st
Houston - Jaylen Brown
Team X - Jalen Green

but it's impossible to find Jalen Green fits via trade.

Trae for Brown makes a lot of sense. Holiday can age into off guard, defensive player. I just wonder who has more value? I wonder if it’s not Trae. That Brown contract is massive.

If his contract was 80% of the current AAV I’d throw an offer of a lot of picks in need of a third team for OKC. But he just makes too much.

Screams Kings. Why would it need a third team?

Hawks would be the team to trade for him.

I figured the Celts still want to compete for a title. Assuming Fox & Sabonis are off the table and don't think Keegan + Barnes gives them a better chance at the title than Jaylen.

Mitchell is better than Brown so that is a no. I would do Garland for Brown.

Lauri and salary to Boston
Picks and salary to Utah
Add some picks here and there

I find it highly unlikely that they would trade him, but some interesting ideas in here

Agreed and brother im here for it :D Yall already know Brown to the Hawks has been my target for many years now even over KAT. I was offering Trae for Brown all last offseason. But if we could keep trae and still get Brown that would be awesome.

If they want a straight talent upgrade they will have to add value. If they want a lateral move of star for star…why…and that’s fairly rare. If the move him it would likely be for depth and to fill holes, etc. as a means to getting better fit/diverse/sustainable overall.

Keegan fits Boston, Jaylen fits Sac.

Keegan/Huerter. Two shooters with length and Keegan is the real deal on defense. Add picks, additional value.

It could be a competitive offer.

Boston won't trade Jaylen, even if we don't make the finals.

Some of the trade suggestions here are hilarious.

Is it browns fault they get knocked out in scenario?

He can probably be moved but he is payed like a superstar but should be third best on a championship team

This. His market is smaller than people think.

Having Brown and Tatum guarantees Boston always has a chance for the finals, I can’t see any trade really making sense for them. Brown had a rough start to the season but has looked great recently. I don’t think Boston cares too much about the money.

Zach Lowe said he’d land a mega-haul in trade, majority of these offers aren’t competitive.

Only thing that really makes sense is a three-teamer with Utah, for Markkanen/Sexton. Brown prob goes to LAL in that instance with all the LAL picks to Utah plus whatever.

The Trae thing doesn’t seem that realistic, but I suppose it’s not impossible. Been discussed to death for years though.

None of the other suggestions are remotely competitive imo.

Edit: it was Howard Beck, quoting two western conference executives. Lowe did say a Jaylen Brown market would be "robust" from multiple teams, this was back last May.
