DET/NOR, how close is the value or who needs to add?
So as a pistons fan I’ve been doing lots of draft research to try keep my hopes up and I really love the idea of Sarr. If the shooting is legit, he could play stints as PF but realistically he should be playing C. Obviously Duren is on the roster and Detroit needs an upgrade with their wings.
Trade is simple, Duren for Trey Murphy.
NOR get a young promising Center to take over form Valenciunas and Detroit get their two-way wing where Murphy can finally have a concrete starting position.
Who says no? Or who needs to add to get the deal done?

I like both guys, but think Duren has a little more value.

This is close in value: 2 fun, promising young players. But in these situations, teams will keep their own player that they have built up years of development and connection with.

I don’t think there’s much reason to think Sarr will be a better shooter outside the paint than Duren, and I further don’t think Murphy has Duren’s value.
To each their own, though.

I have Murphy as having more upside which is all the Pistons should be worried about.

I really like both of these guys.
Better fit for NO but Murphy is great.

Yeah I understand the position of doing so, but I do think this has merit for both teams

Re: DET/NOR, how close is the value or who needs to add?
I'm bullish on Duren's potential so would be reluctant. Also I have high hopes for Ausar Thompson being our starting SF long-term so Trey would have to be our PF (I see he's played 35% of his minutes there this season so don't think this will be a big deal).
If Alex Sarr really separates himself from the rest of the draft pack and we were in a position to take him I would seriously consider the trade though.
Sarr/Stewart
Murphy
Ausar
Ivey
Cade/Sasser
With a lot of cap space to use to round out the roster.

I’ve seen Sarr play a few times as I live in Perth in Australia. He’s been showing some offensive versatility that already is leaps and bounds better than Duren. Duren at this point is strictly a dunker and whilst his free throw percentage suggest he can stretch his range out, we are yet to see him take shots consistently outside of the paint. Sarr has decent form on his shot, is already knocking down turnaround mid-range shots and hitting some 3’s. Look up his highlights, and you’ll see the potential.

I’m definitely putting the cart way before the horse here, but what worries me is Duren’s defence and his lack of range, and unless one or both take a significant leap I just don’t see him as being worth the contract he will command. The Perth Wildcats are currently going into playoffs so the seasons almost over, I don’t think Sarr can grow is stock anymore unless it’s because other prospects underwhelm. In a draft with so many average prospects I think taking a swing on a guy that has shown skills to be a 3pt shooting rim protector you take that chance every day of the week.
I also think Murphy is a stud and doesn’t get the opportunity he deserves both with shot attempts and minutes.

So, a lot of reasons for Detroit to do this; why would New Orleans? Would Durant do well next to Zion? What happens to JV? Who takes Murphy's place?

From what I’ve read, there is a lot of nervousness around Sarr being a shooter. If that was one of his competencies, he would be a unanimous pick for #1.

There is no reason. Upgrading JV shouldn't have to come at the cost of Murphy.

Not “a lot” of reasons, it’s only if Sarr is available in the draft that this really makes sense for the pistons, otherwise they hold onto Duren and hope he continues to develop.
I could see NOR wanting to do this to balance their assets a little more and have a young prospect at Center since JV turns 32 in a couple months and declining. Murphy doesn’t even start for them and unless they move Ingram or bench Herb there’s not a whole lot of opportunity for Murphy.
As someone already stated both teams would probably preorder to keep their guy for the sale of discussion, was wanting to find out the value of the trade and who would need to add

I like the idea...what about FRP Pistons for Murphy+LAL FRP... let NOP Sarr selection

I’m a little confused by what you mean man, I assume you mean Det 2024 1st round pick for Murphy and LAL 2024 round pick but I don’t get the SArr part. He will go top 5 in this draft so he won’t be available via LAL’s pick.

Re: DET/NOR, how close is the value or who needs to add?
I think this trade touches on one of the two or three biggest issues for the Pels in the future. The biggest issue is whether Z and Brandon can coexist on a contender. The second biggest issue is what is the best type of big to pair with Z. Is it a defensive rim protector who can maybe rub some pick and roll or is it a floor spacer. Ideally it would be both but there are like 3 of those guys in the league.
I lean more towards us needing a shooter at the 5 because we have a top 10 defense even with playing JV for the majority of our defensive minutes. He’s smart and pretty disciplined but he’s not a rim protector.
If we could get a guy who can shoot and still maintain the defensive level we have now we are good.
All of that to say I think the value is right but I would pass because of wanting a different player at that spot.

Re: DET/NOR, how close is the value or who needs to add?
He's suggesting Detroit keep Duren and instead send their top pick to NO for Murphy and a middle to late 1st so that the Pelicans can draft Sarr. Really don't think Murphy is worth that close to the top pick in this draft.

Re: DET/NOR, how close is the value or who needs to add?
Yes, sorry I explained it wrong...my suggestion is that NOP keeps the Detroit selection (if Sarr is on the board) and sends Murphy +FRP LAKERS...looking at it now it seems too stingy.. maybe Murphy+#14+Future FRP protected for the Pistons selection (1/2)..A_dub06 wrote:Mike lorenzo wrote:I like the idea...what about FRP Pistons for Murphy+LAL FRP... let NOP Sarr selection

Because? on paper Sarr seems like a much better fit for Zion and he does NOT have to pay Murphy next year, which gives them flexibility...
Pistons are really covered at the 5 with Duren...he is young, good and they already know him...above all they have few assets compared to teams in the same timeline and obvious holes...plus Murphy is good and fits wonderfully ..And it seems that this is a very flat Draft
