What # 2024 pick is worth Keyonte George

Simple question: Not a package, not including any other picks.
Pretty straightforward. Which 1st round pick in 2024 is Keyontye George worth?
Is any team in the lottery willing to trade for him?

In a normal year I'd say his lost year of cost control would hurt a lot, but this season he'd certainly go top 8 based on how he played in college. We've seen that it translates to the NBA with inconsistent success scoring, and better than anticipated passing - basically, pretty good for a rookie. I have him worth a pick in the 5-8 range, but would rather keep him than roll the dice in this lottery (especially non-top 4).

I agree. isn't he fairly comparable to JaKobe Walter who is projected in that range.
There may be a few targets players (Topic for some and Sarr for others) - otherwise, he is in the mix after that (so, 3-10 range). At this point, there is not lot of difference in the top 10 picks, especially after Topic/Sarr.

No, not close.

Ja'Kobe Walter looked good in pre-conference play, but he has since looked mediocre. I was originally quite high on Walter, but that was based heavily on a 40%+ 3P on heavy volume. Since then, his shot has been inconsistent, which makes his awkward release a question mark. More importantly is the complete lack of playmaking, with a pedestrian 8.9% AST%. Keyonto, otoh, had similar shooting question marks but was much better on-ball, including a 20.1 AST% along with improving as a shooter throughout the season opposed to declining.

They are similar size and both went to Baylor, which is where the lazy comparison falls flat.

I would be shocked in Ja'Kobe ends up a lottery pick at this point. He doesn't do enough to impact a game and hasn't developed a skill-set you would hope for in a high-end recruit.

This is going to be an interesting draft. At this point, no guards/wings have routinely separated themselves while Sarr seems to have separated himself from the rest of the big men. This seems to overrate Sarr--if the logic is Topic/Sarr go 1-2 in either order, what is stopping a team from taking a handful of other guard/wing talent over Topic?

Houston is in a promising position to add a talented wing in the mid-late lottery.

As a jazz fan I don't think I would trade him for any player in this draft. He is starting to show star potential and I don't see that from most of the players in this draft.

He has basically no star potential as he's not athletic enough, but that's true of most of the guys in this class too and he's safer as he's shown at least something. Probably top 2 or 3.

Late lotto.

Would rather take a chance on a rookie to become a star.

I don't know enough about the draft to make a good estimate.

That being said, if someone offered #1 for Keyonte and #8 Id probably pass

I'd say somewhere between 6-10, depending upon team needs/desires.

I think this draft has an upper tier in the 1-5 range. I would put him in the second tier of players in this draft.

If Charlotte drops into the 6-10 range, I could possibly see them willing to trade.
Spurs might be interested (using the Toronto pick).

But Portland, Memphis, Houston, Atlanta, and OKC would be harder fits.

9% of his shots are at the rim, lol.

Second half of the lotto imo. He’s had flashes but not sure what he projects to be ultimately. I like the potential of some of the potential draftees better.

i would like to remind everyone I said this about Devonte' Graham in 2020. This feels similar

Anthony Edwards and LaMelo had tons of potential, they just sucked before the NBA and had really offputting personalities. (and they still do have very offputting personalities!)

This is very different from the 2024 draft where Risacher is an extremely high character and productive player with no athletic upside at all (which also applies to Dillingham and Sheppard and others)

Granted, I don't know a ton about this draft class yet, but from what I've seen, I think he'd be a top 5 pick for me.

I'd easily take these guys over Keyonte George:
Sarr
Risacher
Buzelis
Cody Williams
Topic
Dillingham
Sheppard
Holland
Castle
Collier

Then depending on which team is picking, these could also be taken ahead of him:
Salaun
Furphy
Knecht
Dunn
Tyler Smith
Filipowski
Missi
Clingan

So I'd say for sure outside of the top 10, probably late lottery / mid teens... close to the same range he went last year.

I would need to hear why you are actually trading Keyonte. Or is this just a stealth way of ultimately telling us you wouldn't trade him and he is really good?

As a Jazz fan, I think he is a bust. His ceiling is a good backup PG or maybe a sixth man in a contender. I didn't get all the hype some Jazz fans have on him. With that said. I would rather trade him now since his value is still "high" and you can have a 1st for him. I do think he is worth a lottery pick in this weak draft. Somewhere between 8 and 14.

He has good, not great, athleticism. Doesn't have a blowby first step. Doesn't have breakaway transition speed. Doesn't have the hops/length to just jump over a defender.

But, he can get up and dunk. He seems to have enough athleticism to get to the rim if he gets even a slight advantage. Creates contact fairly well. Will get better at drawing fouls in time I think.

His shooting is coming along rapidly. This was a fairly big concern early in the season. But, it seems like it's not going to be a problem. Shot 42% from 3 in February on 6.9 attempts. I believe shooting will be a strength for him.

I think he needs to get stronger. Improve his athleticism. I think this will help his defense quite a bit and also give his FG% a boost.

In my mind I see him something like a taller Mike Bibby. And that's a damn good player.

George's frame is completely maxed out, he tried to bulk up in college and lost a ton of his athleticism.
