Best Vet For Dejounte Murray

I don't see the Hawks making Trae sit through a rebuild so I don't see them trading Murray for picks but rather a better fitting veteran... who is that player?

Well what do the Hawks want? They’re up against the luxury tax. They have good depth at most positions.
SG seems like the most obvious need to me. Maybe a 3&D vet SG who can also handle the ball?
The Raps offer Bruce Brown + IND ‘26 1st.

Atlanta is going to have two 2024 firsts, the ability to trade two future firsts and two swaps. And have a couple prospects on their roster..
I think Atlanta messed up in thinking DJM can be the second best player on a contender. But they don’t really need to trade him. He’s fairly paid (probably underpaid) and they have one more cheap year of Jalen..
I would look for them to trade two of Hunter/Capela/Bogdan with assets and try and make a deep run while staying under the tax, then decide if the group is willing to pay the tax for.
But DJM should still be worth two firsts and non negative salary. I think Atlanta needs to find a player better than DJM, which makes a vet for vet swap seem unlikely. More likely would be DJM+2024 firsts for someone in a three team trade?

This is interesting! I have seen no reasons why MIN should trade KAT, but if they flame out in the playoffs, ATL could make an interesting offer.
Deandre Hunter + DJ Murray + 2 1sts
The other option is a return to the Spurs, and essentially doing a “refund” trade.

No. Hawks have good depth at guard overall.
Lack depth and size in the front court. We saw that when Jalen Johnson was injured in game15 and he missed the next 14 games, followed up by Hunter missing 25 games when Hunter returned. With Bey now out for next season, that's another spot that needs filling.

CJ is a terrible fit next to Trae. Murray seems like a great fit w/Zion, but YMMV.

If the WOLVES have a quick exit from the Play-off...
Murray +OO for Gobert..
Trade 2.
Griffin +Capela +Kings FRP for Aldama +Smart

I think Minnesota is still owed some value. I also think they'd rather trade Towns than Rudy but coyod be wrong.

I don’t think it would be Hunter.
Murray + OO + Griffin + Picks
Ideally Wolves find a 3rd team for a vet of their choosing that want Griffin + Picks (including Wolves own 24 if needed).

I like something with the Pelicans -
ATL - Murray/ AJ Griffin/ 2024 1st Rd Pick (SAC 1-14 protected)
Pels - Herb Jones/Dyson Daniels
Not sure on value, but Herb is on a great contract and I think Dyson will get better as well, that's why I added to ATL 1st(from Sac)
Gives Atlanta the wing and point of attack defense they need. They'll need to address C position I think and move away from Capella
For Pels, Murray at Point, with CJ moved to the 2 should work better than what they currently have

I would do Ivey and a pick for him but not sure that's the direction they want to go though.

I don't see Minnesota downgrading in a KAT trade honestly

Who is available that makes sense?

Part of me wonders if Atlanta is just better off rebuilding? I don't see anyone realistic that upgrades their chances to win and I don't see Trae being content feeling like he can't win. If they went rebuild between Trae and Dejounte, they could get a nice haul.
Let's say the rebuilding teams this off-season are Chicago, Toronto and Washington... which players would be upgrades from those teams for Atlanta?

Pretty tough to rebuild owing your very next 3x picks unprotected (1st - Swap - 1st). Spurs would surely like that Hawks decision…
So, then we are back to Trae to Spurs for all Hawks picks back plus. Whole thread on that.

I posted this in Doncic thread, but I wonder what Mavs would think of:
Trae + Jalen Johnson + Bufkin and/or Griffin + 2x 2024 1sts
FOR
Doncic + Kleber + Exum
For Hawks, if Doncic can get more out of Hawks roster, they get the better player who now can’t be paid Supermax.
Capela | OO
OO | Kleber
Hunter | BB
Doncic | BB
Murray
Sell Doncic on cap space soon enough (roster where Doncic, Murray and OO are only contracts) plus future picks to trade for star (29, 31, 33 if Doncic can wait that long).

Yep every time I try retooling the Hawks... I end up thinking a Trae to the Spurs deal makes more sense.
Ingram for Murray/picks is interesting if NOP wants to build around Zion.... who is the best guy the Pels could get for picks, Nance n Dyson?
