Draft day-Port/SA/Chi
Chi needs to clear cap space
Port clears $ and gets their pick back
SA gets a very solid vet PG who's expiring-they try to win next year
Bulls send JCarter to Port, along with their pick back
Bulls get the LAL 2nd round pick from SA
Port sends Brogdon to SA
Port gets JCarter and their pick back
SA sends LAL 2nd round pick to Chi
SA gets Brogdon
Bulls hopefully free up enough cap space to bring DDR, Drummond and PWill back
Port gets their pick back and saves a lot of $-and Carter is a decent bench guard for now
SA gets a PG to help Wemby win

Not bad.
I would not have any issues with this trade if it went down. I do think Chicago probably deserves the Spurs 2nd (~#33) instead of the Lakers (~#44).
However, from Portland's perspective -> I'd like to flip Carter to another team. I honestly think Suns are a perfect match there.
Maybe something like:
Carter -> to Phoenix for Little
Little -> to Pacers for '29 Portland 2nd returned to Blazers

Pass for POR.
Not trading a starter for a bench guy and a pick that will most likely end up a SRP.

I figure Port builds around Scoot, Simons and Sharpe-plus their picks. Not sure on Ayton-had some good games recently. They save a bunch of $ here and get a nice size TPE. Carter's not a bad player, just mediocre. Bulls have Ayo/White/Caruso/Lavine for back court next year
As for the 2nd round pick, chi would LOVE the #33 here instead of the Laker pick

Still think Brogdon might pull a late FRP from a playoff team in need of guard help. If the offers are SRP may as well keep him.

I think the problem is that you are valuing Portland's pick owed to Chicago as a second.
The pick is protected for another 4 years. You really think that Portland is going to stay in the lottery until 2029?
If so, that's your choice... if you think Portland will be able to get into the playoffs in any of the next 4 seasons-> then a trade like this is essentially trading Brogdon for pick #16 in the 2026 draft.
I like the talent base Blazers have & think that they can push for the playoffs in a two or three years

Do any blazer players look like the best player on a good team?
They don’t look like that to me. I don’t see a franchise changing talent in the draft.
This looks like a lotto team for the next couple years.

If you had asked me before this season, I would have predicted playoffs by then, but I’m now less optimistic. Scoot is a longer term project than advertised and is not a guaranteed good player. Sharpe still has a crazy high ceiling, but don’t show quite the progress hoped and then got injured for the remainder of the season. It’s not a great start to the rebuild. Follow that with a non-hyped draft, and this could be a while. We’re still waiting for that homerun draft pick, and by the time that happens it will still take some development.

Do you really want to keep Brogdon to help raise your floor next year, which would prevent you from playing your younger guys plus whatever you draft, AND get a better pick next season? Whatever marginal value you can extract from Brogdon you'll give times 10 in lottery chances and development... similar to what the Jazz did last year, keeping their vets longer than it should for not a whole lot, which eventually ended up with them drafting Hendricks and Keyonte George rather than Wemby or Brandon Miller. It seems like the wrong approach to me, but whatever.
Also, even if that Blazers pick eventually conveys as a 2nd, when it's so far ahead it takes a lot of flexibility in terms of picks you cannot move, getting it back would be valuable IMO.

POR needs a vet lead guard to mentor the young guys. That is not Simons.

Portland needs A LOT of things, and a one year rental of nanny Brogdon won't be the difference to get you back on track.

I agree that the goal of moving Brogdon should be increased. This season I wasn’t in a hurry to see him traded unless it was a strong offer. I value having a mentor for Scoot and this isn’t a hyped draft, plus his contract meant no hurry. Next season he would have had a full year of imparting wisdom, the draft has a bit more hype, and the clock will be ticking in terms of him being in his final year of his contract so he could leave for nothing.

Re: Draft day-Port/SA/Chi
I don't see how moving Carter's $6.5M contract frees up enough cap space to help resign 3 veterans. And I don't think even AKME is up for running this group back again, one year older and even more expensive.
I still like the idea of sending PORT back their pick, not as much as the Bulls somehow getting their 2025 pick back from SAS.
I thought PORT had assembled enough veteran talent to mix in with Scoot, Murray and Sharpe to have Grant, Ayton and Brogdan get them into the play in. All it proves is they play the games on the floor not on paper. Simons and Grant appear to be confirming that they can put up good numbers on bad teams, and they make teams bad. Ayton may or may not be in that category as well but with his size I'd still like to get him to the Bulls.
But now I think PORT needs to pick a different lane. Either grab some future picks and more veterans, move Sharpe, Murray and Scoot and push back the rebuild a few years. Or ship out their veterans, get picks and kids and tank to get a couple of top 3 picks and go young. Right now they seem to be in the middle of nowhere.

The team has also been injury plagued which doesn’t help (they are bad either way, but having a near constant rotation involving G-League level players makes them worse). But ultimately, the best option is to move vets for assets. As with above, this season I expected to be bad enough with vets while those vets could help transition the young guys. But next season I want more of a tank.

Agreed but Portland is simply sitting on too many guards.
3 team deal to help out multiple teams.
Miami sends Robinson and filler (Bryant)
Miami receives Brodgon
Miami gets a PG allowing Rozier to float between PG/2G.
Portland sends Brodgon
Portland receives Giddey, K. Williams, Dieng
OKC can replace any of those pieces with draft picks. Portland puts role players around their young guards
OKC trades Giddey, K. Williams, Dieng
OKC receives Robinson, Bryant (or some other filler)
OKC sends out young players that can be replaced, gets back a backup big to be the 3rd string center and Robinson who can keep the floor spread for SGA/Williams/Holmgren

This is too much for Brogdon.
Plus POR is hyper-sensitive to potential player greasiness after the jailblazer era. Not sure POR would take Giddey for free.
Not saying that is rational, but that sentiment is strong here.

It is so lopsided in Portland’s favor that they’d do it. Heck, they still hired Billups with his controversy.

Chi gets #13/14* from Portland via GSW and second #34*
Por get Carter and pick rights back. Now they can trade 1sts starting with 2025 to get upgrade etc.
