Bogdan Bogdanovic for Bruce Brown

Instead of opting out of Brown's contract, they use him to replace Gary Trent Jr. allowing them to counter any Quickley overpays.

Hawks add a better defensive fit next to Trae and could work with him and Dejounte rotating as needed.

Yeah the value and rationale makes sense, although both teams probably do is only as an Option B.


Option A for the Raps would be to use Brown to get a SF/PF. Letting Trent walk doesn’t give them any cap back, so the way to maximize assets is to resign Trent to a trade-able deal. If Klutch acts difficult, then let Trent walk. And pursue something like this.

With Toronto sitting at $118M for 10 players in 2024-25 including Bruce Brown, I don't see the need for more cap space to "counter overpays for Quickley" -- and if the do need more room, they can simply not pick up Brown's team option.

So if the options from Toronto's POV are
1) This trade (Brown for Bogdanovic)
2) Keep the 28 year old Brown at 1yr/$23M
3) Release Brown and sit at $95M for 9 players

I'd go the space route personally, and trading for Bogdanovic, who is owed $33M for his age 32 and 33 seasons, would be my last choice.

Aside: If there was common ground between the Raptors and GTJ for a deal/extension I think they'd have found it by now, so I'm expecting Trent to walk. I think the SG position is Gradey Dick's next season -- until or unless a younger & better option comes along

For a shooter off the bench, I'd want the contract to be cheap, or short. Bogdan's contract is guaranteed for 2 more years at above an MLE rate, which is more years and dollars than I'd want for a team like Toronto who are a coin-flip (?) to make the playoffs over those 2 seasons.

Rather have the cap space to pursue a 20-something player with size and talent, or punt to the summer of 2025 if nothing is available

is that even an option? Barnes' caphold/extension will kick in and i doubt we have much capspace anymore by that point with Barnes/Poeltl/Barrett/Quickley on the books for ~110M?

- Does Toronto extend Scottie this summer, or extend in 2025 ala Maxey
- What's the cap increase in 2025?
- Do they keep the Toronto 2024 FRP or convey it to SAS?

For 2025, they've only got $72M committed right now, but that excludes IQ ($25M?) and Scottie's hold ($30M) plus the 2024 draft picks. With a 10% salary cap increase, that might leave as much as $20M in space in 2025 after cheap rookie contracts are added in.

I am guessing the FO makes a decision on Brown (keep/trade/release) after they know if they convey the 2024 TOR FRP to SAS

Value is fine, but I think it would depend on the Rockets draft board.

Also I think they want to be players in 2025 free agency, which would be difficult.

If Bogdan were expiring for sure...I think that last year would be a chore for the Rockets...they have too many talented young people waiting to get paid...who will be more important in the future...in fact I have them selecting D. Knecht for that paper... How are you...

This values Brown more than Bogdan? I think it's close or the other way around.
ATL will either retool by trading one of their PGs, and keep BB, or blow it up, in which case they will look for value back and not send it out.

So the Hawks get the lesser valued player and give up a better draft pick by a good bit to do it only for a 2nd round pick?
