Caruso to the Bucks

Bobby Portis, 26th Overall and 35th Overall for Alex Caruso

Bucks add a defensive presence next to Lillard to help defend the opposing backcourt

Bulls add a late first and an early second for Caruso which is about the ceiling of a Caruso return

As a bulls fan, I'd hate to lose AC. But at that value how csn you not? We are desperately thin in the front court and Portis is a huge upgrade to anything we have and we get picks as well.

Id do it.

Milwaukee has already dealt all their picks and swap rights for like half of eternity, so this would have to happen after the draft and #35 isn't available. Assuming Milwaukee picks someone they like at #26 though the Bulls would be stupid not to do this.

Why isn't 35 available?

Bulls do it quick, they have an overload at guard even before Lavine comes back next year, they need to make moves to keep Dosunmu in the game for more than 32 minutes, he's continually improving. Adding Portis to the front line makes sense, I guess what I'm having trouble with is why MIL wants to give him up and throw in 2 good picks to get rid of him.

Why isn't 35 available?

Because the Bucks traded it for Jae Crowder last February like I said.

Bucks have Portlands pick. 35 wouldn't be a Milwaukee pick.

Replace Bobby with Connaughton and this is definitely something Bucks would consider.

It would need to include filler and then you would be hard capped at the second tax.

Pat and Caruso have identical salaries. This actually helps Bucks avoid the 2nd tax apron since they won’t have to pay 3 mil to a rookie after using #26.

Can't we use the MLE to match for trades starting this summer?

Not if we're keeping Hartenstein and OG unfortunately.

Shame, but he doesn't make much, so matching for him shouldn't be that tricky. Worst comes to worst, we can always burn the Bojan deal on Caruso...assuming there's no blockbuster on the horizon that we need to save Bojan's salary for. Caruso + Carter for Bojan works if we can't talk them into something around Bojan + Deuce & Caruso + Coby.

Brunson | McBride | Carter
DiVincenzo | Caruso
Anunoby | Hart
Randle | Achiuwa
Robinson | Hartenstein | Sims

Unless Precious & IH got really crazy offers, we should be able to afford that without hitting the 2nd apron...even with OG at 40M per...and we'd probably still have some wiggle room to flip Carter for someone more expensive. If we could make that a Patrick Williams S&T instead of Carter, I think that would be my dream no-blockbuster offseason.

EDIT:
Spotrac has us around 145M atm with OG opting in & Bojan on the books, if we swap that 39M for 45M (Caruso's 10M + a deal starting at 35M to get OG 40M a year. That would leave us around 165M after re-signing Hartenstein for ~14M. So we'd have about 6M under the tax & 24M under the 2nd apron, with which to fit in Achiuwa & that 11th man.

Don't think that's enough for a Pat S&T + Precious, but that's plenty for Precious + Carter...or a player that we could match for using Carter in a 1-for-1...and could/should still leave us with enough to use the taxpayer MLE.

In a different draft, this wins. In this draft, I think Portis + picks > 19 + 22.

I don't think Portis is coming back to Chicago and also think that the Bucks would miss him more than they realize (who backs up the C and PF spot if he's gone?).

Don’t think bucks can trade 1st with the Stepien rule, only have 24 & 26
