Could a Trae/Mitchell back court work?

Have to aim lower than those two. It’s one of those two with a Lauri, Murray, Ingram level secondary star.

No, Mitchell has to play PG for a team to win in the playoffs.

I guess they would have to send Cam Johnson+ Cam Thomas and picks to get Mitchell...that leaves Simmons/DFS/Clowney/Whitehead and picks? Clowney/Simmons/Whitehead +3 FRP for Lauri... if that was rejected..trade DFS for expiring and waiting for Ingram in the FA?

What is the Nets all in offer for Mitchell?

Ideally they would acquire one star via free agency but if they can’t…

Trade 1-
Mitchell for Cam Johnson, Finney-Smith, Suns 25, Suns 27, Suns 29, Phi 27

Trade 2-
Star Guard/Forward for Cam Thomas, BKN 28, BKN 30, BKN 32, DAL 29

Or

Star Center for Nic Claxton, BKN 28, BKN 30, BKN 32, DAL 29

-

Dariq Whitehead & Dayron Sharpe can be included in any trade. I think the Nets will try to retain Clowney at all costs.

Looking at the free agent landscape they would probably need to use Claxton in another deal (deadline trade?) to get the 3rd guy especially after using so many assets to acquire Donovan. If you have Bridges and Donovan in their primes then you go out and acquire another needle mover that fits. As much as I like Claxton, he's a tier below what they need as the 3rd wheel. I'm assuming you would need to sell Mitchell on that plan before you acquire him. Cavs apparently never had a plan to mold their roster around him.

If they can get Siakam in a S&T w/ simmons as filler, it would be much cheaper.

Mitchell
Bridges
DFS
Siakam
Claxton

is a pretty good lineup

Alternatively, if the goal is to get one piece now (for example Lauri) while keeping Bridges, Claxton, Cam Thomas, Clowney, and Whitehead while getting under the cap to sign a max free agent in 2025 (after resigning Claxton to an extension).

I think any scenario with these parameters mean that DFS and Cam Johnson would need to go.

Ideally the Philly pick would be part of the trade for the piece now so the Nets can keep at least one of the Sun's first rounders.

Ideas?

Agreed.

In fact I think an ideal(but reasonably realistic) type of lineup for Mitchell is something along the lines of:

Mitchell
Bridges
Giddey
Paul George
Claxton/Jarrett Allen

Or

Mitchell
Bridges
Ingram
Portis
Claxton/Allen

Or

Mitchell
Bridges
Giddey
Markkanen
Clax/Allen

One key point missed: This would actually require the Cavs be willing to actually absorb the garbage offer (in this scenario) to acquire Mitchell.

Wait...the OP wants not only 1, but 2 stars for their slew of picks and marginal assets?

I’m not even going to address how unrealistic it is to acquire those guys but, where are they getting the money to pay all these guys lol.

Yeah. With Bridges and Claxton off the table it would take all of the Nets other good assets to get Cleveland to consider a Mitchell deal (assuming that he's on the market to begin with). At that point the Nets are offering Simmons + a couple low-value 1sts, which is shopping in the LaVine section.

This is why the Nets should want to get one star now and get the other star via free agency.

My usual…

To Cavs: Cam Johnson + Cam Thomas + All Cavs 1sts/Swaps Returned via Jazz + 20M TPE + Nets Swaps (as needed)
(unless of course Cavs value owning Suns 1sts more)

To Jazz: 3x Suns 1sts (&swap) + 27 76ers 1st + 29 Mavs 1st + 28&30 Nets 1sts + Simmons&LeVert (expiring) + Clowney
(Ainge can’t say no to this much draft capital)

To Nets: Markkanen + Mitchell + Sexton + Clarkson
(or Collins if Ainge need be)

Claxton | Sharpe
Markkanen | DFS
Bridges | Whitehead
Sexton | Clarkson?
Mitchell | Schroeder

Can they re-sign Claxton and still have cap space with Mitchell and Bridges cap holds?

It is a good question for the capologists.

Bridges will be under a reasonable contract in 2025 but Cam Thomas and Dayron Sharpe will have cap holds.

DFS (over 30) has to go.

They might also have to sacrifice Cam Johnson if they want to keep Cam Thomas and Nic Claxton.
