What are the Hawks trying to do? I see a lot of Murray discussions, seems like they want something between a retool and a rebuild?

This would be a post draft trade so the 2025 first is available and I think the dollars work but if not Lyles would need to be switched out for Sasha.

Hawks currently own the Sac pick thru 2026 (ptotected top 14, 12, 10). Sac is currently a playin team so no guarantee the pick converts this year.

If they want players it would need a third team. What kind of players would they be after?

Regarding the pick this year, Sac could always remove protections or draft for ATL this year, and the rest of the trade be done immediately post draft.

If Hawks are moving Murray, ideally it's for a player to pair with Trae and Jalen Johnson.
Hawks preference would be to trade Capela and start Okongwu.
Hawks may prefer to get a 2025 pick in a better draft vs a 2024 pick.

Atlanta, who doesn't own their next 3 firsts after this year, won't trade for a package of mainly picks and lower end bench players. Doesn't make sense for them.
If they are trading Murray it is likely for a replacement level starter plus. Probably a SG/SF who is a better fit next to Trae and likely some draft capital.

I don't think the removal of the protections this year would be seen as a positive consider the weak nature of this draft.

And the removal of the protections would be to free up next years pick for ATL, so they’d get this year’s and next year’s too.

I don’t know what they are doing. I’m asking. I think Okongwu could get them a better return but maybe they don’t want that…although I bet there’s a price that works.

I think OO should be available, if it’s the right deal obviously. But I think the OP calls for 4 firsts from Sac. Or maybe just 3 firsts and 3 swaps?

Then Atlanta adds their lottery pick this year to that package and can look at adding a superstar if there is one available..

There’s a world where Atlanta gets Lauri for the Kings picks.. And can dump Hunter or Bogdan and sit on the 14 million cap space til December..

Sac has to consider that.

Fox/Murray/Monk/Ellis is a serious backcourt.

Keegan at the 3.

Okongwu and Sabonis at the 4-5 with solid backups like Lyles/Len.

Having Murray/Keegan/Monk as your 3-5th options is quality.

That’s a team that can win playoff series’.

I’d try to avoid the swaps though. 3 firsts (15/17/19)/players/2nds if needed.

What would Okongwu by himself return?

Agreed. Maybe Atlanta feels Okongwu is too limited in his size to be a full-time starter. Atlanta is going to just throw in Okongwu for funsies. Capela has shown he can't be a 30+ mog starter anymore.
