UTA trades: John Collins, 2024 OKC 1st (27)
UTA receives: Sasha Vezenkov, 2027 BRK/DAL 2nd (more favorable), 2029 MIL 2nd
Utah rectifies their mistake in the Collins trade. In the end, a year of Collins will have cost a second and a late first. He's just not a good fit on the team and never was, so it's time to move off the money and open minutes for younger players who fit. In the past this is the kind of trade that would drive us insane (e.g., dumping Favors with a first), but now we are in a different position with assets and this gives us space to both renegotiate and extend Lauri AND try to poach some free agent talent that fits long-term or is flippable for assets later.
SAC trades: Kevin Huerter, Chris Duarte, Sasha Vezenkov
SAC receives: John Collins, 2024 OKC 1st (27)
Sacramento gets a F/C who can play off of Sabonis and provide a bit of secondary rim protection. As I describe Collins: unexceptional but competent. An unexceptional but competent guy could really help their frontcourt rotation. They also add the chance for some cheap talent with a late first (after trading their own for Huerter).
DET trades: 2027 BRK/DAL 2nd (more favorable), 2029 MIL 2nd
DET receives: Kevin Huerter, Chris Duarte
Detroit absorbs salary but adds some shooters on the wing to help space the floor, something they've needed pretty desperately. This is far from a home run, but seems like a reasonable use of space since Huerter and Duarte are 25 and 26, respectively.

My question would be: does it work with the Washington 2nd? Unfortunately I don't think it is feasible financially for the Kings without Vezenkov included, as that would make this much easier.

Huerter/Duarte/salary for Collins is a must do for Sac if all else fails this summer. All else must fail first though…which is a serious possibility.

Re: No one is happy: John Collins to Sacramento
I’d likely try to trade for DFS first but this could be a backup option. Mainly because we’re getting a high 1st out of it as well.
Collins would give us some more size at PF and give us some minutes at the backup 5 with Lyles as added length at PF next to him (so we’re not super small) to space the floor 5 out for Fox (while Sabonis rests). But at the same time, Len has been so productive for us and has helped our defense.
I think it’s a decent experiment and getting paid a 1st makes it worth it. If it’s not a good fit after the 1st year, he basically turns into a massive expiring that could be used in another trade.

Not so bad for Detroit. I’m still hoping they can hit a home run with their cap space. I see Huerter more of a consolation prize, but I’m sure he could help.

Not eager to move Sasha in a deal like this. I'd prefer to move both Barnes + Huerter. But I think id do it if this is what was all that was on the table.

Sasha isn't needed for Utah and is for the Kings. Find a way to keep him on the Kings and I'm ok with this.
