New Orleans gets: Jarrett Allen

Why?
Cleveland moves Mobley to full time center, gets a good frontcourt partner for him, a prospect, & two picks.
New Orleans gets their center of the future, one of the more underrated players in the league.

I have Herb Jones as a more valuable player than Jarrett Allen.

Herb is one of the best 3nD players in the league on an incredible contract. Allen isn’t a young prospect and 2 1sts more valuable than him.

OK, didn't see this one coming.

I think this only works for CLE if they're moving Garland/Michell in a different deal. CLE is already thin in the front court, and doesn't have the minutes to play more small wings. While Mobley and Allen may not be idea, team is still going to back fill somehow.

I would not trade Herb and the 2027 unprotected Bucks pick for Allen much less add Hawk and another 1st. I think this drastically overvalues JA.

Honestly I think Cleveland side gets more value each time the Jones/Allen trade is suggested.

I think Jones is the more important role, while Allen is the better player. And don’t think there would be much value added, from either side, if the teams agreed to a deal.

But would think it ends up being something like..

WCJ/Jones to Cleveland
Nance+asset to Orlando
Allen to NOP

Nance not really being needed, just as a contract makes sense.

I think it would be NOP paying for WCJ for Cleveland. But could be Cleveland sending their first this year to NOP and NOP sending a future first to Orlando if the value is that close..

But then maybe Orlando/NOP just agree to their deal and NOP keeps WCJ and Jones..

Yeah, I could see a straight swap of Herb for Allen to address the fits of both teams but I don't see either team adding value

No traditional center is ever going to pull a trade package close to this. Allen was already a double double guy when Clev traded for him for a late 1st in 2021. I think he has increased his value for sure with some consistent play since then, but at the end of the day a center is never going to pull this type of package.

Maybe NO would add a single protected 1st to Herb if they really wanted to make this swap but that would be them overpaying for need.

Are we playing Herb at PF after this? Is that frontcourt better than Allen and Mobley?

From my perspective, I can at least see putting Murphy at PF next to Mobley and swapping defense for offense.

That aside, it would be Murphy, Pels choice of filler, and a non-pemium first.

I understand that perspective, but without Allen is the Cavs are a play-in team (or worse) right now. He's the only starter who didn't miss considerable time this season, he's a legitimate two-way player who's uber efficient, on a team-friendly deal for two more seasons, and the Cavs have no one behind him (unless you count Mobley which opens up a hole at PF). The Cavs would need good value to move him.

From the Pelicans perspective, I suspect that everything is going to turn on Ingram's willingness to extend. If he extends, then I suspect Murphy will be available in a win-now trade. If he doesn't, then Ingram will be the one made available.They don't have cap space, or an easy way to acquire it, and they can't pay for triple redundancy at the wing while leaving the holes their on roster unaddressed.
