Sacramento Simons

Maybe wrongfully assuming the Kings convey their pick obligation to Atlanta this year...

Portland Trail Blazers get:
Harrison Barnes
Chris Duarte
Davion Mitchell
2025 Top 8 Protected Sacramento Kings First Round Draft Pick (2026 Unprotected)
2027 (or 2 Years After 2025 Conveys) Lottery Protected Sacramento Kings First Round Draft Pick (2028 - Top 8 Protected / 2029 - Unprotected)

Sacramento Kings get:
Anfernee Simons
Matisse Thybulle

Trail Blazers add a solid veteran in Barnes and two pieces they could sell off separately in follow up deals to get comfortably below the tax. They also add two picks that will convey and free up some playing time for their young guards.

Kings get a nice scoring guard to replace Malik Monk assuming he gets overpaid elsewhere that would actually fit well with Fox. Thybulle compliments their line-up and if Keegan Murray can take that next step, they would have a nice young core.

2 picks for Simons? Even if Monk leaves absolutely not.

I'd rather replace Monk internally with Colby and Keon. Then try to get a replacement 4 for Barnes.

What about something like...

Nets get:
Jeff Green
'25 Top 20 Protected Kings 1st ('26 - Lotto Protected / '27 Top 10 Protected or becomes 2 2nds)

Rockets get:
Kevin Huerter

Heat get:
Harrison Barnes
Jae'Sean Tate

Kings get:
Dorian Finney-Smith
Tyler Herro

If McNair’s big off-season move is turning Barnes/Huerter/1st into DFS/Herro he will be on the hot seat by the trade deadline.

I'm not sure anything bigger is available this off-season. Are guys like Kuzma or Grant leaving you any better off than this deal? Who is much better that Sacramento could land?

This is a huge overpay. Potentially 2 unprotected 1sts for Simons? I could see 1 lottery protected 1st for 2 years that turns into 2 x 2nds along with Davion/Duarte/Barnes, but not this.

If you are putting forward that type of package you would expect to be getting back more than a guy that would be 3/4 on the offense chart. Particularly one that doesn't add to the defensive end and can't stay on the court.

I don't think a big splash is needed. But I'm also not tying up future picks for mediocre players.

Kings did that already with Huerter and it's handicapped us for years. Rather sit tight for a better upgrade and try to turn Barnes/Huerter into John Collins for now

Also if we’re replacing monk it better be with a big wing player not a small guard that also plays no defense. The guy I’d want from Portland is grant /Thybull

It's Simons + Thybulle...
This deal could be done on draft day if Kings pick to Hawks doesn't convey, 24 pick lottery + 26 pick should do the trick.
Problem is, Kings do this deal only if they fail to sign Monk and they won't know that by then.

If the Sac pick doesn't convey in 2024 to Atlanta, it rolls over to 2025 and 2026 (top 12 and top 10 protected).

Forgot about that, it'll be 28 pick then.

I think a Grant for Barnes + swap makes more sense.

PDX downgrades at F but Barnes is a nice locker room guy (As Grant was, one of the reasons the FO is high on him) and I actually like the passivity of Barnes which opens more shots for the youth.

SAC upgrades at F in a win-now move.

The Kings are actually really deep at guard…even if Monk walks. Simons doesn’t make sense as a target. We need to focus on finding an upgrade at forward.

Jerami Grant for Harrison Barnes + 2026 FRP (IDK on protections) + 2025 PDX SRP?

I think Davion would need to be in for cap reasons

Simons is underrated. Two mid to late 1sts is a fair price, especially if Thybulle is included.

That said, I don't get the fit for Sacramento. Grant would be a better piece to target in a Portland-Sacramento trade.

What protections would you need from the Kings pick in ... Jerami Grant for Harrison Barnes, Davion Mitchell, 2026 Kings 1st and 2025 Blazers 2nd?

If the Kings miss the playoffs this year…

Jerami Grant
2024 CHA 2nd

For

Harrison Barnes
Kevin Huerter
2024 SAC 1st (#13 or #14)

I would rather get a future FRP - we already have 2 likely Top-15 picks in this draft.

Jerami Grant

For

Harrison Barnes
Chris Duarte
2026 SAC FRP (LP / Top-8 / Top-6 / 2 SRP)
2025 PDX SRP

Ideally w/ Duarte routed to a 3rd team as we would have little room for him in our crowded G rotation.

SAC ends up w/ -

G - De'Aaron Fox / Davion Mitchell / KJ Simpson (SAC SRP)
G - Keon Ellis / Kevin Huerter / MLE (Trent JR / Beasley / etc)
F - Keegan Murray / MLE (Trent JR / Beasley / etc) / Colby Jones
F - Jerami Grant / Trey Lyles / Sasha Vezenkov
C - Domatas Sabonis / Kyle Filipowski (SAC FRP) / Alex Len

Ideally you can play Kyle w/ Domatas at times due to floor spacing.

We’d rather not tie up our flexibility regarding our ability to trade future 1sts. Moving off the 2024 1st not only guarantees you get a lottery pick for Grant but it also gives SAC that trade flexibility down the road.

To your point about already having two Top 15 picks this year, you also have an early 2nd this year so it’s not like this trade adds another rookie to the mix. You’re just swapping one of those rookies for a better rookie.

I think my trade makes a lot of sense for both sides.
