Jae'Sean Tate + Jock Landale + Jeff Green + 9th Overall Draft Pick = ??

Post#1 » by NYG » Wed Apr 17, 2024 12:49 am

If Houston shopped Tate, Landale, Jeff Green and 9th Overall for a veteran... what would they be looking at in return?

To expand, as is this is roughly 31m in salaries they can take back.

Could also include Steven Adams if needed for more salary.

Could also see inclusion of the 26 and 27 Nets picks to bring back best long term piece possible.

My personal target would be Caruso, as you can never have enough 3 and D guys. Or perhaps a Jared Allen if he shakes loose.

A better way to frame this would be "what does the #9 pick + filler get you?"

Jerami Grant fits in here, though I wouldn't trade #9 + Filler for Jerami Grant.

Dejounte Murray would make sense, need to add 1 more 1st.

If Minnesota flames out in the post-season, some of these guys + #9 for Jaden McDaniels.

I don't think Grant is a good fit, and not someone I would pursue at this stage.

Perhaps Brogdon and Williams for Filler and Houston swaps the Nets pick with GS pick?

FVV / Brogdon
Green / Whitmore
Brooks / Eason / (Dunn)
Jabari / Amen
Sengun / Adams / Williams

Preserves the opportunity to make a consolidation trade and solid rotation guys to fill potential holes in the roster.

Grant fits the bill for that package but HOU is pretty loaded w/ young talent at F.

I like the Murray target. But I’d also think about just trading back for a future first and seeing what Amen/Bari/Sengun look like next year. Draft a shooter between 14-18 and pocket a future first... They have a lot of potential on their roster already while having a few vets to help them… and I would just better position myself in case A- their young group develops B- a star becomes available.

That is unless you can land an All-NBA type entering his prime..

If we land a top 4 pick I'd want to know if Portland would go for a Brooks+pick for Simons.

Is it really a package Grizzlies would find intriguing? What if we took out Sengun and replaced him with Jalen Green or Jabari Smith?

I always assumed to get a player of Ja's calibre, it would need a package of at least multiple firsts plus a young stud or two plus fillers.

Fred, Sengun plus 2 firsts for Ja? I would be reaalllllyyyy hesitant in moving Sengun but I absolutely love Ja.

We don't need Rob with Adams, I'd amend it to this

2 of (Green, Tate, Landale) as preferred, #9 + #43 for Brogdon, #14 + #33

My view is we add 2 rotation guys for essentially free.

And it puts us into a position where if a star trade opens up, and big money needs to go out, we would still have a salvageable rotation afterwards.

So for example, lets say Embiid is available, and we are like, okay Sengun, Cam, all the Nets picks. You need some big salary to make the salaries work. You don't necessarily want to include FVV because he is more than filler, so now you have an option to include Adams, and still have a decent backup at center.

And if not, you have injury protection, until you need the filler in trade.

Joel would take Sengun + Bari + Cam and some picks IMO.

.

I don't think replacing Sengun with either of those guys makes a deal workable, they both have far less value

No it’s not, you don’t break superstars into pieces when you are competing for a title and you certainly don’t do it before your guy reaches his prime. Unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Well....there are extenuating circumstances...Not saying I would do it, but Sengun is a stud and a perfect compliment to JJJ. FVV is an above average PG and we still would have a lottery pick + future picks. That´s a good frame to any Ja deal.
