last jay deal for today with Utah

THJ
Powell
Prosper
25 TOR 2nd

for

Clarkson

Utah gets a middling prospect, a projected decent 2nd and saves $10M against the cap in 25/26

Dallas gets the space to sign Jones to a full MLE and Clarkson should have a role as a bench scorer.

Feels like an overpay by Dallas if I'm honest. But trying to give Utah enough incentive to pull the trigger.

I do not have Utah paying to turn Clarkson into THJ/Powell though I get the argument just shedding most of his last year is a win for Utah.

So take out Prosper and put in Hardy and still fine?

Can Dallas pay more assets to make this Sexton instead?

I mean they can. Does Dallas want to pay a first for Sexton? Is Utah open to that idea?

I'm down for it. I was sticking to smaller shave salary, fill a small hole in the process deals today, but a larger Sexton deal is intriguing to me for sure.

As a Jazz fan, I would take it.

BJax said yes to THJ/25 1st for Sexton in a thread a week ago. So probably?

Clarkson is a player that I like, but he is coming off a season with terrifying percentages (29% from 3) and he has played worse than THJ and they have a longer contract...
I think we would like to keep O-Max too, who I wouldn't call it mediocre...
I would call it raw (something they knew when he was chosen in the 1st round) Anyone who has followed his year in the G-league knows that the boy is progressing even better than expected (this year he will probably be in the rotation).
THJ/Powell+SRP(maybe 2) for Clarkson...
Seems fair to me...
Mavs save a few million this year and the Jazz in the future

I like Sexton...but would you pay a FRP (taking into account our limited assets) for an undersized backup guard, exploitable defensively in the Playoff?...(I'm not) Interested in your opinion

This is definite yes from Utah even though they probably waive THJ and Powell, Utah gets way too much value here unless Dallas needs to dump salary or something.

I think Utah does it and I also believe Clarkson gets back to his 6th man of the year type production on the right team.

I am one that thought Cleveland should keep Sexton and trade Garland..and took a long time to actually admit I was wrong there.. so I love adding him and just banking on the guards out scoring teams and the bigs keeping the defense respectable..

But that makes Dallas really small once you have to trade Green to open the MLE for DJJ?

You end up needing to get really lucky and finding a decent sized wing you’re willing to play 10-20mpg..who will sign for pretty much the vet min.

Probably not impossible though.

I don’t know if you’re trying to be an **** at the end there? So whatever. But the jump in on court skill and production from THJ to Sexton is similar very much in the trend of Dallas just making positional upgrades on the court similar to what with PJ and Gafford.

No, I explained it wrong, I'm sorry...I meant that I wouldn't do it (period). And I'm interested in your opinion, you are one of my favorite Mavs posters

Yeah it’s tough. I want to use THJs expiring as matching salary for an upgrade but keeping DJJ is so foundational.

Yeah its hard to read it, but you were asking would you pay a FRP while saying you personally wouldn't but ending with but I want your opinion.

Props to you both for working that out maturely.

No you’re fine. The “(I’m not) interested …” looked like a sneak diss so I was confused. We’re all good.

Trade still isn’t the best. Not because of the sexton trade but because it doesn’t open money for DJJ.

I think just replacing them with a 2nd is fine. Hardy isn't going to ever play with our guard depth. I'm happy to get a 2nd or two and send Clarkson to a contender.
